I applied for this university because it offered the best animal science course on this side of Australia and had international accreditation. I knew about UQ because it is a popular university for students. The university was my top 4 preferences when I applied through QTAC, I received the highest possible grade upon graduating and therefore was guaranteed to get into my course. The fees for my application were relatively small. Once I received my offer it was extremely easy to accept and the University provided clear instructions on how to set up my university account. They were also available to call.
Exams :
There is over 400 people in my degree and around 50 in my major. The program has guaranteed entry for OP 1-5 students, which is the top 5 grades than can be achieved on graduation from high school. I achieved an OP 1. The lowest OP in the course is 10. The program requires Mathematics B, English and one of chemistry or physics to be completed at a high school level. There were no extra exams taken for entry.
Placement :
At my university campus, you can work at the various parts of the university's farm, as well as in the lab. Those jobs require experience and a high GPA. There are other jobs such as tutoring and residential staff.
Internship :
Placement is an essential part of the degrees and placement is needed to both the uni and external providers. The university has a good reputation for students and therefore it is not that difficult to find people to do the placement with.
Fees :
The fees are paid semesterly and academic scholarships are available for international students. My fees are covered by the government in a HECS loan, which I will pay back when I get a reasonable paying job through tax with no interest or time limit. It is approximately $10,000 a year to study, but fees are higher for international students, due to a total lack of subsidy from the government.
Faculty :
Good faculty with approachable and highly qualified staff. All lecturers are leading researchers in their field and therefore can provide a modern insight into the industry.
Hostel :
I live on campus where accommodation is affordable and meals are provided. There is also a stack of events run for people who live on campus and there are on campus facilities such as the library which is open 24 hours, a doctor, gym, pool, psychologists, and security.
