University of Newcastle review

L
8.3 /10

I opted for this college as it has a smaller cohort than other universities in NSW. There is less competition to gain entry with a lower ATAR required. Located up the coast, it has more opportunities to partner with professional sport clubs whereas Sydney universities are competing with others to participate in placement and sporting opportunities.

Course Curriculum :

The course curriculum is great. There is a lot of involvement and support through the tutors and mentors at the university. You can choose some majors and various alternatives in the program.

Exams :

I joined this program as there is a much smaller batch size compared to other universities. This means you can make lasting friendships and have personal relationships with your mentors and tutors through classes. The ATAR required for entry to this program is lower than other universities. The program follows the typical programs at other universities.

Placement :

The placement opportunities are great as there are no other local or close universities to compete with. Opportunities are provided as the university has many ties with local and professional sporting teams and programs.

Internship :

The campus offers jobs in cafes, the library, and the on-campus support staff. Jobs can be applied through university jobs and adverts. The only eligibility criteria is to be a student at the university.

Fees :

The fee structure has a standard university fee schedule. Payment is required before commencement if not an Australian citizen. Scholarships can be applied through the university. The scholarships can be applied pre-start or after starting a course at the university. The university payment can be paid under a HECS loan.

Examination Structure :

The exam structure is like all other, assessments and assignments are incorporated and part of the exam structure. Some courses have exams and some do not.

Faculty :

The faculty is great at the university. Mentors and tutors provide support and are personable. You can form a great relationship with them as the classes are smaller and they're always available to discuss the course and program.
