University Of Sydney

8.2 /10

This program was my top pick during the university application process because it had interesting units that were relevant to the real world and also applied to my future job prospects as either a journalist or a marketing manager. I applied through UAC (as most high school graduates do in Australia) and was hoping I made it in because the guaranteed entry atar was 95. I also applied to Macquarie University and The University of New South Wales for similar programs, but i mostly wanted to get into USYD because of the prestige and the culture. I was nervous because the entry mark was rather high. The total credits for the program is 192 and it is four years in length. The batch size is approximately 300, however my program is relatively new.

Course Curriculum :

I found it especially rewarding because of how balanced it is. however, it is also very difficult in regards to content load because it covers over two years’ worth of content.

Exams :

I studied the International Baccalaureate (IB) and earned a total score of 37/45. To pass the IB, a mark of 24 or higher was needed, but students also needed to fulfil other requirements (e.g. community and service) in order to pass the IB. The equivalent atar for this mark was 95.75, which allowed me guaranteed entry into my university program. I took the following exams and received the following IB marks: English High Level - 6/7 Mathematics Standard Level - 5/7 Geography High Level - 6/7 Visual Arts High Level - 6/7 Environmental Systems and Societies - 7/7 Mandarin Standard Level - 6/7 I also gained 1/3 for my Extended Essay and Theory of Knowledge assessments.

Internship :

My university program features an internship in the third year of study, so I think that employability and work prospects are a significant component of focus for the university of sydney. I do not have any experience personally with the internships or campus jobs, but those students I know who do have campus jobs really enjoy it.

Events :

My university loves to celebrate social events and clubs, each with its own particular events. USYD also celebrates innovation and ideas with ted-talk style panels and speeches from professionals, which better aid students and professors alike.

Fees :

I actually have a HECS loan which defers my university fees until I reach a stable income. Once i have reached a stable income, the university fees will begin being deducted from my income at a small percentage. i was awarded a scholarship for my first year of study (approximately $8,000). HECS is an Australian university program.

Scholarship :

I was apart of the E12 scholarship program which awarded me approximately $8,000 for my first year of tuition. E12 is for financially disadvantaged or otherwise disadvantaged students that have backgrounds that might have negatively impacted their studies. I applied through the UAC website and provided evidence, such as government records.

Examination Structure :

For some of my media communications subjects, they are purely reliant on assessments with no exams. However, for marketing, the mid-semester exam and final exam are worth approximately 60% in total.

Faculty :

I think that the professors and the tutors are very qualified and knowledgeable in the arts and media communications faculty. They are always welcome to help answer questions and give help to those who ask.

Hostel :

I live off-campus - I live in my family home with my parents. the only difficulties I have faced have been the travel to University because it is incredibly time-consuming (it takes me approximately 1.5 hours to get to USYD).
