Sciences at Deakin's

It had the optometry course I wanted and the course is accelerated, so it only takes 3.5 years to complete my bachelors and masters instead of the normal 5. More of a rural area and not in the city. Lots of placement and overseas options.

Course Curriculum :

Really good because it covers all the basic science and physics in the first year, then moves into more subjects specific to optometry in the second year. the third year is structured really well as we get six months of placement.

Fees :

Each of my subjects cost $1000 for the semester, but I can claim this on the federal governments HECS scheme, this means I don't have to pay for it until after I start earning $52000 per year, after which the student debt is taken out in tax. No interest applies. Also a student service and amenities fee of $150.

Examination Structure :

Only three out of four of my subjects hold exams. Each exam varies in structure depending on the subject. All exams are handwritten and held during an exam week at the end of the semester. Mix if multiple choice and short answer questions.

Faculty :

I haven't had too much interaction with the faculty of health/medicine as yet so don't have too much of an opinion. It all seems very well organized however and they provide many support services.
