Founded in 1878, Western University’s academic excellence and vision of top-class research set foot in 1881, when this research-intensive public university opened its doors to students for the first time. Initially, the university made its debut in four faculties- Arts, Divinity, Law and Medicine. Western has now grown to accommodate 12 faculties offering more than 400 combinations of undergraduate programs along with 120 professional and graduate programs. Western today has three affiliated university colleges; King’s University College, Brescia University College, and Huron University College.

I wasn't exactly sure what I wanted to do in my life. Originally I wanted to be a dermatologist which would give me the freedom of any undergrad. I was originally accepted to all the universities I applied to for bio or biochem (as I loved bio). I got to thinking and knew bio was not a great degree to have if I didn't get into med school. A friends relative is an actuary and the more she told me about it as well as when I took grade 12 calculus and fell in love with math I knew it was for me. Western was the only of the 4 schools I applied to where my major wasn?t set in stone as well they offered me a 10,000 scholarship.

    Fees :

I am not international so I have no idea I took out OSAP loans which are not the best since they do not even come close to covering what I'd need them to. Many students this year had to drop out because of Doug Fords restructuring of the loans. The 10 tuition cut was just moved to the other fees category of tuition therefore no actual tuition cut.

I opted for this college because it is well known in my area and a fantastic option for my location. My older sibling came here first. My admissions average was 85% in my top 6 university-level grade 12 courses. The admission process was easy and I only applied to western university and affiliating college.

    Fees :

The yearly fee for my program is $14000, I've applied to OSAP to gain me the half loan and half grant. Criteria is basically a family in need of financial assistance based on the yearly income of parents. This process is fairly simple yet somewhat unfair for some students whose parents are not assisting in college tuition who make a substantial amount of money.

I knew this college was good because previous family members had attended it. Also, the admission process was very smooth. The school tuition fee fit inside my budget. Overall, I chose to attend the University of Western Ontario because I have heard outstanding feedback from alumni and I do not regret my decision.

    Fees :

For international applicants, there are sports, science, math, English, and many more scholarships available to them. The tuition fee for my program was $9822 I was happy about that because it fit in my budget. I was not awarded a scholarship as I did not apply for one at the time I was applying. I did bot take any loans.

I opted for this particular college because it fits all my criteria and the tuition fees were in my budget. The application process was smooth and I had a good score to get into the school. Another factor that greatly affected my decision is to join was the location. I live in Ontario so this college is great for me as I do not have to move far.

    Fees :

I know there are a lot of scholarships available to international students but the only one I can remember is the sports scholarships for sports like football, soccer, and basketball. The tuition fee for the Nursing Program at the University of Western Ontario for me is $12,349.98 Canadian Dollars. I find this tuition great as it fits inside my budget and it is competitive with other schools.

I applied to almost all the universities in Ontario. I always had a passion for medicine and physics so I considered 2 programs: medical biophysics and biomedical engineering. In the end, I chose my school because of its extensive research. I really valued the research experience and aligned with the research opportunities in medical physics.

    Fees :

For non-international students, it was $8000 paid in halves in August and December. The international fees are easily available online, I believe $14,000 and also which is paid in halves. International students have guaranteed work study and numerous scholarships (found on the school website). I did not apply to any scholarships.

It's got the highest admission average for students coming in, the university is safe and it's only 2 hours away from where I live. My first choice was McMaster health science but this program is very difficult to get into and when I got rejected from that program my second choice was western where I knew the institution was safe, the campus is beautiful and I had a few friends I knew coming.

    Fees :

My tuition fee was around $8000 plus around $14,000 for first year housing and food. I have a $10,000 scholarship i received but am given $2500 each year. Other than that I revisited two other scholarships, one from samsung and one from Rbc which totalled around $6000. I got a fair share of money from OSAP as well around $4000 to pay for some of my tuition and housing fees

Enjoyed the social and studious aspects of it. I loved the campus vibe and the various clubs and activities they offered. I also heard that the people that go to western are nice and easy going. I wanted to live away from home and western is about a 2 and a half hour drive away.

Western University - UWO, Ontario, canada: 1 answered questions

    VIEW ALL

Ques. Which university should I choose, University of Western Ontario or Ryerson University? I have been admitted to the Faculty of Engineering.

    ● Top Answer By Sonali Jain on 03 Feb 21

Ans. Your experience is determined a lot by the city your college is in. With about 400,000 people, the city of London is comparatively small with very affordable housing. Thus, Western Ontario will be great for those looking for quiet and affordable education. Ranking wise, Ryerson University ranks #801-1000 and University of Western Ontario ranks #203 as per QS World Rankings. Both these universities have top-rated programs; however, Western has a better reputation than Ryerson due to its history and location, which is more affordable than Toronto. However, Ryerson is located in the heart of downtown Toronto which gives you access to many opportunities which you may miss in London. Ryerson, being seventy years old, is not a new university but it is half the age of Western which has grand old buildings and stately lawns that are even more than a hundred years old. The table below shows the comparison between the two colleges: Western has an employment rate of 91.5%, and Ryerson University has an employment rate of 86.7%, popular job profiles after engineering is:  Software Engineer - $55140. Project Engineer - $54374. Software Developer - $53608. Electrical Engineer - $52842. Civil Engineer - $52000. Mechanical Engineer - $48247.
