Rightly considered as one of the best higher education institutes in Canada, the University of British Columbia ranks #2 in Canada and #34 worldwide by the recent 2021 rankings survey conducted by the Times Higher Education.

I decided to pursue my further studies from Canada, and get settled there only. My relatives staying in Canada helped me a lot in taking the admission into the university. My high school GPA of 7 and fluency in french language added more value to my application. The admission procedure was quite simple as I had to apply through the online application by paying an application fee of around $50.

    Fees :

My study expenses were around $10000 as tuition fees. My books and supplies expenses were around $2000. I had applied for the scholarship at the university to cover my study expenses at the time of submitting my admission application, after submission of my financial affidavit.

It was close in proximity, and I was very familiar with the area already. The application process was relatively simple and it came without an essay requirement. Overall, I applied to 7 other universities. Ultimately, I chose UBC because it was really welcoming towards IB program graduates and it is among the top universities in Canada for my major (psychology).

    Fees :

The tuition fee is around $5,399.10 for a domestic Arts student. However, there are also student fees ( $1,074.28) and housing fees if you choose to live on campus. Keep in mind these numbers are only estimates and will certainly be different from international students and students in other faculties. As for scholarships for international applicants, this is a great source https://you.ubc.ca/financial-planning/scholarships-awards-international-students/.

I heard about it because I live in the city. It's close to home and a reputable school so it was my top choice when applying for schools in grade 12. It's in a beautiful city and is a nice sized campus; not too big, but not super small. Although I understand that school is expensive, UBC is an affordable school in a pretty area.

    Fees :

Tuition is fair. Not including living it's about 8,000 a year. Living expenses inevitably increasing on where you live and how you're spending your money. There are advertisements for a bursary's which are accessible on the campus website. There are lots of opportunities for students to save, budget, and work on campus

I chose UBC because of it's a top-rated school in the country and I wanted the best learning opportunity I could get. As a student going into sciences, UBC offers a wide range of courses in the subjects I'm interested in. The admission process was straight forward, fees were average. I applied to four schools and I was accepted into all of them due to my high grades in secondary school. UBC was always my first choice which is why I ended up choosing it.

    Fees :

Tuition is comparable with other schools in this province, sitting at around $6000 for the year. There are several scholarships available for both domestic and international students and cultural diversity is definitely a huge deal at this university. I did not take any loans but I have been awarded the UBC Presidential Scholarship valued at $40,000. The criteria were fitted for a student who exceeds all around in many aspects of their life and it was very competitive. I am grateful to have been chosen for this award.

Because it is the best university on the west side of Canada. I did not want to leave home and go away to another place. The admission process took a long time to complete. There were many questions and was accompanied by an online interview. I had two interview questions. The application fee was pretty reasonable. My grade 12 average was at least top 10% of my grade (out of 500 people).

    Fees :

Tuition fees are roughly $10k/year for domestic students and $40k/year. International students also need to pay for rent and food. I was not awarded scholarship from ubc. My tuition is roughly 800$ per course. A minimum of roughly 40 courses to graduate. Each year, the prices increase by about 10%.

Offered what I needed, new campus as a branch of UBC in Vancouver but included the small school vibes. The application process included an extensive personal profile but acceptances wasn't solely based on academic marks and achievement. Found that through that experience, they really valued their students and wanted them all to feel welcome and be able to give their gifts in many different ways across their campus.

    Fees :

Interior savings credit union - $1000, Rebecca foundation - $1000, both I had to apply for. one through the COBSS (central Okanagan bursary society) and the other through my own research. included personal profiles and essays to ensure that the right person gets the award. the criteria were that I must use it in my first semester of schooling.

I applied to various colleges and universities that offered an MBA program. My application was accepted in two to three colleges. Then I took admission at the University of British Columbia. I paid an application fee of $150 for the same.

    Fees :

$80059 was the tuition fee paid by me. There are numerous scholarships and funding programs offered by the university. Dean's Entrance Scholarship and Madhu Varshney are the scholarships that cover half of the tuition fees.

Being an Indian international student, I was required to submit my English proficiency exam scores and transcripts along with the common application form.

    Fees :

I paid a total of $38052 as my tuition fees. Yes, being an international student I can get different academic scholarships and awards. The names of some of the scholarships are International Major Entrance Scholarship and Outstanding International Student Award.

Ques. How can I get scholarships or financial aid for the University of British Columbia and the University of Toronto?

    ● Top Answer By Jasleen Rall on 11 Jan 21

Ans. It depends from where you are, as well as your previous background. If you are not a Canadian, you will only be eligible for some scholarships and not financial aid. Even then the competition will be too much and you’ll have to be too good with a unique background so that you become a prospective student with a lot of potential at UBC. There are different scholarships for different programs. All have varying criteria which you need to go through carefully. Female students in hard sciences have an added benefit in many scholarships specifically aimed to help them. Parameters Funding at University of British Columbia Funding at University of Toronto Total Funding Budget 30 Million CAD 247 Million CAD Average Scholarship Amount Merit-based: 25-30% Need-based: 65-70% 7,500 CAD to 20,000 CAD Official Website UBC scholarships UToronto’s website UBC Offers funds based on your academic and extracurriculars. You’d be automatically considered for any merit-based awards once admitted to UBC for up to 25-30% of total offered funding. UBC Need-based awards comprise 65-70% of total funding and depends on the student's financial need. UBC Hybrid scholarships are awarded based on a combination of merit (academics, leadership skills, etc.) and student’s financial requirements. These make up 10% of the UBC funding. University of Toronto University of Toronto’s budget for funding in 2019-2020 was 247M CAD If you're a great student with active extracurricular participation, you can be considered for scholarships ranging from 7,500 CAD to 20,000 CAD You can check out UToronto’s website for specifics. Credible academic references, exceptional marks and great personal achievements and records are a must for availing most of these merit-based scholarships. These merit-based scholarships/awards don't require any application as you’d be automatically considered. Finally, make sure you work hard and apply on time to be considered for these.Read more

work study options in the university of british columbia

Educational experience at University British Columbia is much more than just obtaining a UBC undergraduate or graduate program degree. It is also about gaining developing employable skills, building a network, and gaining professional experience. All this can be done with UBC work study programs, available for both domestic and international students.

University of British Columbia’s work study program offers five components to aid a student’s personal growth:

    • Personal and professional development
    • Learning workplace skills and etiquette
    • Exploring potential career options
    • Experimental academic learning
    • Ongoing mentorship

As you must be aware international students, on Canadian student visa, are required to adhere to certain regulations while opting to work part-time (or work study) during their studies, not just at UBC but any Canadian university. Students may even require a work permit.

Like in any other university, international students at UBC can choose to work on-campus or off-campus.

On-Campus Work Study Options at UBC

UBC on-campus work study opportunities include university-related work such as working at facilities like clinics, research institutes, teaching, etc.

Apart from this, students may choose to work with:

    • UBC student organization
    • Private contractor operating within UBC campus boundaries.

For these on-campus employment options, international students do not require any work permit. However, if their on-campus work is an internship or co-op program, then they may need the Canadian work permit.

Off-Campus Work Study Options at UBC

Off-campus work options include volunteering and internship opportunities. UBC students enrolled in any program, do not require a work permit for off-campus work as well, as long as you maintain your full-time student status.

While it is your choice to go for on-campus or off-campus work options, international students are highly recommended to seek on-campus employment. This is because UBC on-campus jobs do not have any restrictions in terms of the number of working hours. However, students working off-campus can only work for 20 hours per week. Therefore, decide your UBC working while studying options wisely.
