Gargi College, New Delhi was established in 1967 and is named after Gargi who figured in the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad of the Vedic Age. In the year 2004-2005, the college was awarded the prestigious College with a Potential for Excellence grant, by the University Grants Commission. It is affiliated to the renowned Delhi University. Gargi College is one of the leading women colleges located on the south campus.

Gargi College was awarded ‘A’ grade by the NAAC and NIRF ranked 16th at the All-India level in the year 2020. The college imparts various Undergraduate and Postgraduate courses. It is the only women institute in the south campus that offers education in 4 streams Commerce & Arts, Sciences & a teacher training course in elementary education. Gargi College Admission

The admission is undertaken by Delhi University. For UG courses the candidates are selected on the basis of merit and for PG courses marks in qualifying examination and entrance exams are considered for admission.

How to apply?

The application form can be filled online through the official website of Delhi University. The application fee should be paid through the online mode of Net Banking/Debit/Credit Card.

  • The candidates have to visit the official website of DU
  • Then they have to register using their phone number and log in using their credentials.
  • Scan and upload photographs and signatures carefully.
  • The candidates are also required to upload the supporting documents.
  • They need to pay the application fee of INR 250/- (INR 100/- for SC/ST) for UG courses and INR 500/- (INR 250/- for SC/ST) for PG courses through Net Banking/Debit/Credit card.

Gargi College offers scholarships to needy and meritorious students. Some of the scholarships offered are:

  • S.K. Sood Memorial Scholarship to two sportswomen of 6000 INR per annum.
  • R.P. Cricket Academy Scholarship to 2 sportswomen of 6000 INR per annum

The college offers all the basic facilities to the students. Some of the facilities are listed below:

  • Auditorium: The college has its own state-of-the-art auditorium with a seating capacity of 750 spread over the main floor and the mezzanine. It is fully air- conditioned and equipped with solar lighting installations.
  • Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility: Gargi College is one of the two colleges and the only Women's college in University of Delhi to have BIF (funded by DBT with a yearly grant for maintenance and allied expenses). 
  • Bookstore: A bookshop is stocked with the curriculum books for various courses as well as with stationery products. It is located near to the library.
  • Laboratories: The Botany, Chemistry, Elementary Education, Microbiology, Physics, Psychology and Zoology laboratories are not only spacious and well-ventilated but also very well-equipped with various resources.
  • Food Court: The Food Court, students' favourite hangout, is where the action is. A water harvesting system has been installed in the canteen area. The canteen has been renovated and extended with the construction of an additional food outlet:
  • Learning Resource Centre: Gargi Library website and online use of e-resources increased during the year for easy understanding and online access to Library resources and facilities. 617 books were added till March, 2018 making a total of 74027 accessioned books in all. At present the library has an asset of 217 CDs and subscribed to 51 periodicals and 10 newspapers.
