Wildlife Institute of India is located in Dehradun, Uttarakhand. Established in 1982 as Autonomous Institute of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC), Wildlife Institute of India (WII) is an internationally acclaimed Institution, which offers a training program, academic courses and advisory in wildlife research and management.

The institute offers an M.Sc course in Wildlife Sciences which is affiliated to Saurashtra University, Rajkot. Also, offers PG diploma and Certificate course in Wildlife Management.

  • Courses of Wildlife Institute of India are open to both Indian and Foreign nationals.
  • For graduates the institute offers M.Sc course, admission to M.Sc course is on the basis of NET entrance exam, Personal Aptitude Test and interview.
  • PG Diploma and Certificate courses are for in-service Indian Forest Service and State Forest Service Officers of the rank of Deputy Conservator of Forests (DCF)/Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF) and equivalent.

Wildlife Institute of India - [WII] PG Admissions 2023

Wildlife Institute of India offers a two-year Master’s course in Wildlife Science the M.Sc. course in Wildlife Science has been developed to impart training in the field of wildlife science and to further the cause of wildlife conservation in India and elsewhere. 

After the successful completion of the course, candidates will be awarded M.Sc. Wildlife Science Degree by the Saurashtra University, Rajkot, Gujarat.

Candidates applying must have a minimum of 15 years of formal education (either 10+2+3 or 11+2+2).

For admission, a candidate will have to sit for a NET exam. Shortlisted candidates will be called for Personality Aptitude Test and Interview.

For the final selection, 50% weight age is given to both NET and PAT.

NET will be for 2 hours duration for 100 marks question paper. The test will have 30 marks MCQs on General Awareness including Current Affairs, Quantitative Skills, English Language and Computer knowledge; 40 marks MCQs on environment, forest, wildlife and conservation issues and 30 marks for essay question on an environmental, forest, wildlife or conservation issues.

For foreign candidates, the final merit list will be based on 50% marks in the Graduation degree and 50% marks obtained in the interview (Maximum marks - 100) which will be conducted by Skype or other online means.

Key Points:

  • The Course Fee for Indian Nationals is INR 5, 32,800; for SAARC Nationals fee is US $ 13,200 and for other Nationals fee is US $ 14,400.
  • Candidates with Bachelor's Degree from Universities outside India should obtain certificates of equivalence from the Secretary-General, Association of Indian Universities, AIU House 16, Comrade Indrajit Gupta Marg, New Delhi-110002
  • Age limit is 25 years as on July 01 with a relaxation of 5 years for reserved category candidates (SC/ST/OBC). For the in-service candidates working in Forest and Wildlife Departments, the age limit is 35 years as on July 01.
  • Foreign candidates who do not have English as their native language must have sufficient TOEFL or IELTS score. The score reports should not be more than two years since taking the Test to submission of the application.
  • A minimum TOEFL Score of 213 (computer based), 550 (paper-based), or 79 (internet based), or a minimum of 6.0 IELTS score is required.

Wildlife Institute of India - [WII] PG Diploma Admissions 2023

Wildlife Institute of India offers a Post-Graduate Diploma Course of 10-month duration in Advanced Wildlife Management.

Candidates applying should possess a background of Forestry training with a minimum of Bachelor's degree in any of the natural sciences.

Foreign applicants must have a minimum of Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry/Natural Resource Management (NRM) with proficiency in English.

State Forest Departments must send curriculum-vitae along with passport details of eligible candidates. Details must be filled in the application form and sent to Institute with the endorsement of the competent authority in the state government.

Key Points:

  • Candidates should be physically fit and not more than 45 years of age as on September 1. In exceptional cases, Director, WII may relax the age limit subject to physical fitness.
  • Fee of the PG Diploma course is INR 10, 00,000 for Indian candidates, INR 11, 19,000 for SAARC countries’ candidates and US $ 20,500 for applicants belonging to other countries.
  • PG diploma course will be conducted from 1st November 01 to January 31.

Wildlife Institute of India- [WII] Certificate Course Admissions 2023

Wildlife Institute of India offers three months Certificate course in Wildlife Management. The course will be conducted from 1st November 01 to January 31.

Government lecturers having experience in the field of Wildlife Science may also apply.

Non Indian candidates with equivalent forestry/ environmental science background and field experience are also eligible for the course. They should preferably have adequate knowledge of English language.

State Forest Departments or Foreign Governments/ Agency must send nominations of eligible candidates. Details must be filled in the application form and sent to Institute with the endorsement of the competent authority in the state government/ nominating agency.

Admission will be based on first come– first serve basis.

XXXIII Certificate Course Wildlife Management Those who are in-service Officers of the rank of Deputy Range Officers /Range Forest Officers or equivalent and are having a minimum of Higher Secondary (12th) standard education and a basic course in forestry. On the basis of experience, age, physical fitness and other qualifications.

Key Points:

  • Age of both Indian and foreign candidates should preferably be below 35 years of age and not more than 45 years as on November 1.
  • Candidates applying should be fit enough to withstand the arduous outdoor training programme
  • Course fee for Indian trainees is INR 3, 20,000. Fee for foreign applicant is $ 6000.
  • Nominations of both the Indian and Foreign candidates duly completed in all respects should reach this Institute latest by September 30.

Wildlife Institute of India Application Process

Applicants of M.Sc course need to follow below mentioned steps to apply online for the course.

Indian Candidates:

  • Visit the official website of WII.
  • Fill the registration form available on the website.
  • After successful online registration, Candidates have to fill an application form and pay the fee of INR 1,000.
  • In the application form candidates have to upload a recent passport size photograph, scanned copies of school certificate/ valid passport as age proof, Graduation mark sheets and degree (Previous/Final year), caste certificate (applicable for candidates seeking reservation quota).

The application form must be sent by Registered Post positively by May 07. Envelope containing the application of in-service candidate being sent through proper channel should be marked "APPLICATION OF IN-SERVICE CANDIDATE FOR XVI M.SC. WILDLIFE SCIENCE COURSE".

Foreign candidates

  • Foreign candidates will also have to visit the website and fill the form.
  • Candidates will have to upload a recent passport size photograph, scanned copies of passport with a validity period till June 30, 2020, school leaving certificate, reference letters from 2 persons, proof of International English Language Testing System (IELTS) or Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score (if applicable).
  • Eligible foreign candidates have to pay an application processing fee of US$ 200 or equivalent.  Fee for SAARC nationals is US$ 100 or equivalent.
  • Fee can be transferred electronically to WII account.   • The result of selected foreign nationals will be available on WII’s website before April 2 of the admission year and selected students will also be informed by email.
  • Selected students have to confirm sponsoring/funding support so as to process their applications for seeking the Government of India’s approval from security and other related issues.
