Ques. In a XLRI HRM program interview, do they ask why you want to make a shift to HR after having 3+ years of work experience in the IT industry?

● Top Answer By Sandip Pal on 28 Jun 21

Ans. This is one of the common questions asked in an MBA interview. Generally the question “Why MBA?” encompasses all these. They may twist this question slightly according to your background. These questions are frequently asked to gauge what is your thought process behind choosing an MBA. They want to know if you have given a deep thought about it and how you can convince the interviewer. Secondly, they want to understand why you made this choice. The work you have done to date and the career trajectory you took, how it was good for you and how doing an MBA might be a good idea for your career progression. The more concrete and personal reasons you have, the more convincing it is both for you as well as for the panelists. So, definitely pick some good reasons from your work experience and why it convinced you to pursue MBA in the HRM program. First, convince yourself and if you can, you can definitely convince the interviewers.Read more

Ques. How tough is it to get into FPM program in XLRI?

● Top Answer By Mansi Topa on 10 Jun 21

Ans. It is quite tough to get into this program as my brother got his convert back in 2013. From what he told me regarding the interview, and even now, the panelists are known to be extremely good at what they do. You will have to be confident in yourself and you should prepare very well as they will test you thoroughly. Since research is a prime matter of interest, you will need to show that you have a passion for it. You also will need a really good XAT or GMAT score with an excellent academic profile as the score matters to quite an extent. You should also know that XLRI charges fees that include hostel charges and a few other components for the FPM program. So if you are expecting the fee structure to be like that of IIMs, you might be surprised to see otherwise. As far as the latest information is concerned, the college offers a complete tuition fee waiver and most students are also awarded a fellowship starting INR 25,000 per month which increases to about INR 30,000 per month after two years. Overall, the program is quite a rigorous one. It could stretch for about 4 to 5 years. If you have any work experience, that might play in your favor too. You will have to be well prepared in all the aspects mentioned above and this should help you secure your seat.Read more

Ques. What are the chances of getting into XLRI/SPJIMR if I have 1.5 years of work experience that's not relevant to the MBA specialisation?

● Top Answer By Admin on 22 Jun 21

Ans. I have a friend who recently got admission to MDI Gurgaon. Through the conversations with him, I have gathered a lot of insights about the institute. So, I can guide you fairly with the query. A majority of students in MDI Gurgaon do not have any relevant work experience. Look at the table below for batch profile: Fresher 36% 1-12 Months 12% 13-24 Months 26% 25-36 Months 20% 36+ Months 6% Most of the students are freshers and have work experience between 1-2 years. The average work experience of the 2020 batch is 24 months. Having a work experience of 1.5 years will not give you any additional points. Even the recruiters club the candidates with work experience of fewer than two years and the freshers. A relevant work experience in your field of specialization can boost your profile. But you stand an equal chance like any other candidate.Read more

Ques. Why does everyone talk about XLRI HR and not BM? Is BM bad at XLRI?

● Top Answer By Sandip Pal on 17 Jun 21

Ans. It is not a question about whether or not BM is bad, and HR is good. XLRI is more known for HR because it has stuck with the brand. The brand XLRI primarily had an established legacy in Industrial Relations (IR). Which later converted into HR. XLRI established its reputation as an IR concentrated institution following the Independence of the country. BM, on the other hand, was inaugurated only afterward alongside older IIMs. This has somehow resulted in leading to the XLRI brand getting generally and mostly associated with HR, and not BM. It’s rare to find any industry or top-tier companies in the country where the top HR personnel is not from XLRI. Now when talking about BM at XLRI, there is definitely a strong and successful alumni base from BM in the industrial sector. In fact, for further recruitments, alumni of XLRI get placed in McK, BCG, and several more from the BM sector.Read more

Ques. How is the executive MBA from XLRI?

● Top Answer By Janvi Bhambri on 14 May 21

Ans. The 1-year PGDM(GM)/GMP program offered by XLRI is one of the best MBA programs in the country. The duration of the program is 15 months out of which you will have to spend 12 months on campus.  The curriculum is similar to that of the 2-year long program. You will also have the same faculty. XLRI has one of the best faculty bases in the country. You will get to be a part of the XL mafia, i.e. the extensive network of XL alums. They are recruited in top positions of many reputed MNCs. There are also a significant number of successful entrepreneurs. Such a vast alumni network definitely has its own advantages. Since 5-year work experience is the least requirement, you will have peers from Marine Logistics to NGOs. As the curriculum is case-based, you will have the opportunity to discuss many cases with your peers from different backgrounds.  You will get to experience the overall XL culture. There are ample opportunities to interact with the students from BM/HR programs. These are one of the top MBA programs in the country.  Besides all this, Jamshedpur is a great place away from the hustle and bustle of the big city. You will definitely enjoy your time there.Read more

Ques. Which will give me the exposure and on-site working experience: XLRI, HRM, or BM?

● Top Answer By Kiran Chugh on 09 Jun 21

Ans. One of my friends is studying at XLRI. To her, there is no difference or classification of the amount of international exposure or on-site opportunities, based on specializations. The points below provide a clear picture of the modes of international exposure that students of XLRI receive during their course and afterward. There is a student exchange program in XLRI, which provides foreign learning opportunities to students. The institute has tie-ups with several international business schools like ESADE, Audencia, Darden, and EM Lyon. Almost 20% of students from the batch get the opportunity to spend a semester in one of the foreign institutes. Among them, most of the seats are available to HR and BM students. Students get the benefit of interacting with international students and get used to the global perspective of MBA. In terms of internships and placements, the working experience of candidates totally depends upon the job role offered by the company. In certain cases, companies send their summer interns abroad to their offices. There are HR interns from HUL, who worked in the United Kingdom during their internship period. Therefore, specialization is not the mode of distinguishing chances for on-site opportunities, and the factor is entirely based on the company’s business requirements.Read more

Fee Structure And Facilities :

The fee structure is in line with the top IIMs and having a premium over and above the market rates. The fee for the current batch is 23 lacs for whole program. However, there has been no issues regarding expenditure as the banks line up to provide loans without any collateral.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course curriculum is one of the best and also the toughest in the country. It is in line to the best IIMs that is IIM Ahemadabad and IIM Banglore. The course is divided into 6 trimester with an option to do 5th trimester in foreign university as student exchange. XLRI is renowned for its HRM program throughout the world.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course curriculum is up-to-date and is top-notch. Most courses promote free-thinking and a case-based pedagogy is largely adopted. Students work individually and in groups to solve cases and these are later taken up for discussion in class. In the first year, all 180 students have the same subjects, however, in the second year, students are allowed to take up electives of their choice.

The fee structure is on expensive side. It is one of the most expensive MBA programs in the country charging around 24 lacs for the course. Though the college's reputation and the return on investment covers it up completely as the avg. Placement is about 22 lpa.

PGD in Human Resource Management at XLRI is considered best in Asia. The course is divided into six trimesters. It is considered to be one of the most rigorous courses in the country after IIM Ahemadabad.
