Coimbatore Institute of Technology (CIT), was established in the year 1956. With the aim of spreading professional learning with industrial training expertise, the Institute was founded by the V. Rangaswamy Naidu Educational Trust (VRET). The college is a government-aided, autonomous engineering college. It was made autonomous in 1987. CIT was initially affiliated to the Madras University till 1980, after which the affiliation was transferred to the Bharathiar University. The Institute is now under the affiliation of Anna University (from 2001). 

CIT has 13 different departments such as Physics, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, etc. The Institute offers a total of 7 undergraduate programs, nine postgraduate programs, three five-year integrated M.Sc. programs along with Ph.D. research programs. Coimbatore Institute of Technology also has a polytechnic college, CIT Sandwich Polytechnic College, which started in 1961 that currently offers eight engineering diplomas in various disciplines.

Coimbatore Institute of Technology Admission

Admissions for all courses in CIT are made based on the marks secured in the respective Entrance Exams and 10+12 or equivalent qualifying examinations followed by a counseling session. the accepted entrance tests are- JEE Mains, TNEA, CIT-CET, TANCET, GATE, CIT-MSc depending upon the course applied for. 

How to Apply?

  • Candidates will have to download the application form available on the website and fill the form. 
  • Before filling the form, students are required to register on the official TNEA website.
  • After the results of the related entrance exams are published, students will receive a rank list based on which counselling will take place. Students can register for counselling on the above mentioned TNEA website.
  • All seats are allotted based on the counselling by the Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai, and Anna University for BE/ BTech and ME/ MTech/ MCA programs, respectively.
  • Candidates applying for MSc Integrated courses will have their selection process based on the CIT-MSc Entrance Exam conducted by the Institute, followed by a personal interview for shortlisted candidates. A small fee of INR 1000 is payable for all students applying for MSc.

The Placement Cell of CIT functions in a most efficient manner. The cell strives to employ methods that are most effective for students to gain exposure and get selected into companies worldwide. CIT engages its students right from the first day of their final year in activities like mock interviews, career guidance sessions, and workshops to enhance their knowledge about work life.   • Library – Established in 1956, the CIT library is built over an area of 1302 sq. Meter. The library provides a massive range of e-services and is equipped with modern facilities and resources in the form of books, journals, and research papers. The library provides students with access to databases all around the world from which they can access study material to cater to their educational needs.
  • IT Resource, and Maintenance Cell (ITRM) – The ITRM is responsible for managing and catering to any faults in the computers and network connectivity.
