Established in 1961, the college owes its origin to City College, Calcutta. It is administered by Brahmo Samaj Society, a registered Society, constituted by the Sadharan Brahmo Samaj, Calcutta and is affiliated to the University of Calcutta. Located in Kolkata, West Bengal, it has been re-accredited as a B++ college by NAAC. The college offers both General and Honours degrees.

The college offers full time UG courses in Humanities, Arts and Science fields. The duration of all UG courses provided is 3 years and students can choose from many specializations. However Diploma programmes are also offered which are for a duration of 2 years.

There are a total of 1385 seats in the UG program that includes both 2 years and 3 years courses. The Commerce stream has 210 seats, Science stream has 513 seats and the Humanities stream has 796 seats.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • The candidates should have completed Intermediate (10+2) from any recognized board.
  • They should have attained at least 30% aggregate marks for admission to General degree course.
  • For Honours degree course, a minimum of 55% aggregate marks and 45% subject marks are required
  • 5% relaxation in marks is given to students belonging to reserved categories.

Selection Criteria

  • The candidates are selected on the basis of marks scored by them in 10+2 examinations.
  • A merit list is released by the college upon which selected students are called for counseling.
  • Admission is granted upon verification of original documents and payment of fees.

Ans. Yes, the college offers reservation to certain categories of the society:
  • SC/ST: 22% and 6% respectively of the total seats of the subject are reserved.
  • PWD: Reservation of 3% seats of the total seats of the subject.
  • OBC: 10% of the total seats of the subject are reserved.
  • Military Quota: Additional 5 seats are reserved for the children of the Ex-military servicemen who have died or have become disabled in the battlefield provided they are otherwise eligible.
  • Foreign Quota: 15% supernumerary seats for foreign students have been earmarked.

Ans. Yes, needy, meritorious and enthusiastic students with genuine urge for learning are provided concessions in tuition fees, examination fees, book grants etc. as and where applicable by the college as per the norms of West Bengal Government.

Ans. Yes, the college offers hostel accommodation for its bonafide students. It is a four storied building, equipped with a visitor's room, dining, assembly hall, study room etc. and runs under the supervision of a hostel superintendent, a matron and efficient staff. The rooms are very neat and clean and mess is also available.

Admission:

There was no such process for admission. They just had the cut-off percentage as the eligibility criteria for applying. Once a candidate matches the eligibility criteria about the percentage of marks scored, they directly get their applications approved by the admission department and a list gets out including their names in it. That's the entire process of applying for any course.
