International Maritime Academy (IMA), established in 1999, is a residential marine institute located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. It is affiliated to Annamalai University and offers various Undergraduate, Postgraduate, and Doctoral programs in the field of Marine Services and Management.

At the PG level, the institute offers an MBA program in regular and distance mode and is offered under five specializations. Aside from the MBA, Other PG courses offered by International Maritime Academy include the MCA course, an M.Tech course, and MIB course. 

Admission to the above-mentioned courses is granted on the basis of merit followed by a personal interview and medical examination.

The institute also offers a 4-year-long residential B.Tech program with various specializations like Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture and Ship Building.

IMA Chennai UG Selection Criteria

Candidates with a valid 10+2 qualification must appear for the Personal Interview along with a passport size Photograph (Two), Original Mark sheet & Passing Certificate of 10th std & 12th std.

Verification of Mark sheets & Medical Test will be conducted at the Academy. The students who fail to pass the medical exam won’t be granted admission.

How to Apply for IMA Chennai?

For all the courses, candidates can download the individual application forms from the college website or obtain them from the IMA office. If the candidate is eligible, they must send the filled-in application form along with a DD, to the campus for the reservation of seats.

  • Candidates can obtain the application form online or from the campus office.
  • Eligible candidates can reserve their seats by sending the filled-in application form along with a DD of INR. 5000/- in favor of “International Maritime Academy” Payable at Chennai.
  • Candidates will be then informed of the medical examination, interview and certificate verification round that will be held at the IMA office.
  • Students who clear the medical examination and further testing procedure should pay the balance course fee before the commencement of the course.

Ans. To be eligible for admission to Diploma in Nautical Sciences, the candidates must possess any of the following qualifications:
  • Pass in HSC / (10+2) From a Recognized Board with 60% Average in PCM (Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics Subject). 
  • B.sc in Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics or Electronics with Physics as individual subject in one of the years with an average of not less than 55% marks in the Final Year.
