Established in 1937, Women’s College, Kolkata has been one of the popular Women’s Colleges under University of Calcutta. Women’s College provides both Undergraduate and Postgraduate Degree programs. In the UG program, both General and Honors streams are offered. 

Also, it serves as a Distance Education Study Centre for three Distance Learning Universities: Vidyasagar University, Netaji Subhas Open University, and Indira Gandhi Open University offering UG, PG, Certificate, Diploma, and PG Diploma for Arts, Science, Commerce subjects. The admission procedure is online. Admission to this college is based on merit and selection is one on the basis of the Choice Based Credit System.

  • Laboratories: The College has 5 well-equipped laboratories for Chemistry, Geography, Food & Nutrition, Journalism and Psychology subjects.
  • Library: Central Library of Women’s College is located on the 1st floor of the main building of College. It contains around 28000 books, 340 bound periodicals, and 12 journals. Every department of College has a Departmental Seminar Library headed by respective Departmental faculties. E-Resources are available for students. They can avail PubMed, Shodhganga, National Digital Library of India, American Libraries, etc. 
  • NSS: Women’s College, Kolkata has dedicated NSS wings. Cadets have successfully participated in various occasions like Kerala flood relief, Independence Day Celebration, Republic Day Celebration, etc.
  • Spoken English Course: The College conducts Spoken English Course, every Saturday. An annual certificate is given upon successful completion of the course.
  • Srijan Centre for Community Welfare: As a part of Social Responsibility, Srijan, an initiative by Women’s College Kolkata provides various cultural training like dance, music, painting, etc. to the children of the nearby slums. Srijan arranges their books, stationery, school uniforms, and refreshments. Regular health awareness and health checkups of the children and their mothers are done by the College with the help of proper medical practitioners.
  • Psychological Counselling: The Departments of Psychology, Sociology, and Education jointly run the Psychological Counselling Cell for the help of students suffering from academic stress-related disorders or issues of domestic violence.
