Government Arts College for Women, Ramanathapuram stone was laid in the year 1994. The institute is a constituent college of Alagappa University, Karaikudi and is affiliated with it. Government Arts College for Women is a leading higher educational institution situated in Tamil Nadu for Women.

The college has been accredited with ‘B’ Certificate from the prestigious body, NAAC. The college was first affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University from 1994 to 2007 but was later affiliated to Alagappa University.
