Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College is a government institution established in 1976. The first law college in South India is situated in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The law college is approved by the Bar Council of India (BCI) and is affiliated to the Tamil Nadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University (TNDALU) which oversees admission to law programs. 

Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College offers courses in the field of law i.e. LLB, LLM, and B.A.L.L.B. The selection of the candidates is done through their merit-rank in an entrance examination, CLAT.
