The government institute of forensic sciences was established in August 2009 in Aurangabad under the department of higher and technical education, the government of Maharashtra. The institute was developed with a special resolution to provide education and research in the field of forensic science. The institute offers undergraduate (UG) and postgraduate (PG) programs in forensics and Postgraduate Diploma (PGD)courses in different specializations. the institute is one of the leading institutes in India which imparts quality education in various domains of forensic science.

The institute is spread in an area of 21 acres on the campus of govt institute of science, Aurangabad. Besides that, the institute actively provides training to police officials on various topics including crime scene investigations and digital forensics.

  • Library: The institute has a separate automated and well-furnished library with a collection of over 3000 text-books, reference books, periodicals, encyclopedias, and journals dedicated to forensic sciences. The library is also connected with national online resources which contain more than 5 lakh E-resources. The library has separate rooms for boys, girls and faculties.
  • Multipurpose Hall: The institute has a multipurpose hall with a capacity of 400. The hall is well-equipped with an audio/video and internet facility. The hall is used to conduct seminars, symposia, conferences, workshops, social gatherings and to play indoor games.

In case, if the aggregate marks of 2 candidates are the same, then the admissions will be done based on the aggregate marks of compulsory subjects. Further, the tie-braking will be done based on the SSC marks and age. Similarly for PG diploma courses. Admissions are done based on the aggregate percentage of bachelor's degree. In the case of the same marks, tie-breaking will be done based on the HSC, SSC marks, and age. (older will be given priority).
