NIFT is one of the most reputed institutes of the country known for imparting fashion education. It was established in 1986.

It imparts several undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Fashion Technology and Design such as B.Des, B.FTech, MFM, M.F.Tech, and M.Des.

To be eligible for B.Des Programmes, the applicant must have passed 10+2 examination of any recognized board OR must have secured a passing grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination OR must hold a 3 or 4 years diploma recognized by AICTE.

Selection to B.Des is done on the basis of the score in the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and General Ability Test (GAT), followed by a Situation Test for the shortlisted candidates.

The eligibility criteria for B.FTech requires the candidate to have passed +2 level examination of any recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics OR hold a 3 or 4 years diploma in any branch of Engineering recognized by AICTE. Selection to B.FTech is done on the basis of the General Ability Test (GAT) score.

To be eligible for M.Des and MFM, the candidate is required to hold an undergraduate degree in any discipline from any recognized Institute OR an Undergraduate Diploma of a minimum duration of 3 years from NIFT/ NID.

For Admission to M.Des, candidates are required to appear for the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and GAT. The shortlisted candidates of the written examination shall be further called for the Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GD/ PI) round.

The selection process for MFM and M.FTech comprises GAT written test followed by Group Discussion and Personal Interview (GD/ PI) round for the shortlisted candidates.

For M.FTech, the candidate must have pursued B.FTech from NIFT OR B.E/ B.Tech from any recognized Institution/University.

Eligibility Criteria 

  1. The candidate must have passed 10+2 examination of any recognized board OR
  2. He must have secured a pass grade in the Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects. OR
  3. He must hold a 3 or 4 years diploma recognized by AICTE OR
  4. He must have cleared General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/ Cambridge/Sri-Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level/ International Baccalaureate (IB).

Note- The maximum age limit to apply for the course is 23 years as on 1st October. For candidates of Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, person with Disability category, there is a relaxation of 5 years.

Selection Criteria

Candidates need to appear for the Creative Ability Test (CAT) and General Ability Test (GAT). The shortlisted candidates will further have to appear for a Situation Test. In the final merit list, CAT score is assigned 50% weight age, GAT score is assigned 30% weight age while Situation Test is assigned 20% weight age.

GAT (General Ability Test) for B.Des is a written test of a total duration of 120 minutes. It consists of 100 questions divided among several sections namely Quantitative Ability, Communication Ability, English Comprehension, Analytical Ability, General Knowledge and Current Affairs.

NIFT Bangalore B.FTech. Admissions 2020

Aside from B.Des, the institute also offers a B.FTech. in Apparel Production at the UG level for a duration of four years.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification for M.Des. (Design Space) and MFM:

  • Undergraduate Degree in any discipline from any Institute/University recognized by law in India
  • Undergraduate Diploma of minimum three years duration from NIFT/NID.

Educational Qualification for Master’s Programme in Fashion Technology (M.FTech):

  • B.FTech. from National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT)
  • B.E / B.Tech. from any Institute / University recognized by law in India.

Selection Criteria

M.Des.

The candidates must appear for the CAT and GAT exam. Those shortlisted in the examination shall further be called for the GD/ PI round. CAT score shall be given 40% weight age, GAT score shall be given 30% weight age while GD/ PI score shall be given 30% weight age.

GAT (General Ability Test) for M.Des is a written test of a total duration of 120 minutes and consists of 120 questions divided among several sections namely Quantitative Ability, Communication Ability, English Comprehension, Analytical Ability, General Knowledge and Current Affairs.

MFM/M.FTech

The candidates need to appear for the GAT Entrance Exam. The shortlisted candidates shall be further called for the GD/ PI rounds.  GAT carries a weight age of 70% and GD/ PI score carries a weight age of 30%.

Exemptions from Written Test

  • PG degree Applicants with minimum 10 years of professional experience (teaching/ working) in the areas of research relevant to NIFT
  • Masters degree holders who have minimum 10 years of experience and have cleared are hold a valid score UGC NET, CEED, CSIR (JRF) similar tests will be exempted from written test

Selection Criteria

Admission to Ph.D. program is granted on the basis of a Research Proposal in maximum 2000 words submitted along with the application form.

The students who are shortlisted after step 1- will be called for the written test and personal interview. The written test and interview will examine the candidates’ communication skills, academic disposition, aptitude for research and research co-curricular activities (Subject Areas for written test are in downloads). The test shall be for one hour and forty five minutes with descriptive/objective type questions.

The merit of candidates will be drawn up on the total score of the written test. The names of qualifying candidates will be put up on NIFT website, who then have to appear for a research proposal presentation and interview (as per the calendar of activities). Admission will be offered to the deserving candidates depending on the number of seats available for the academic year.

How to Apply for NIFT Bangalore?

  1. Candidates need to go to the official website of NIFT and click on ‘Admission’ on the home page.
  2. Next, create a login id and password to open the application form.
  3. Fill the application form carefully and upload the required documents.
  4. Submit the form and complete the payment of INR 2000(For General/ OBC) and INR 1000 (for SC/ ST/ PWD) via Credit Card/ Debit Card for online payment.
  5. The payment process can also be done through Demand Draft. The Demand Draft must be issued in favor of “NIFT HO”, payable at New Delhi. Amount of Demand Draft is Rs 2000/- in case of GEN/OBC (Non-Creamy)/ GEN-EWS candidates and Rs.1000/- in case of SC/ST/PWD candidates.
  6. Candidates applying through Demand Draft must send the required documents, printout of the duly completed  Application form and the Demand Draft with the name, date amount and signature of the issuing authority to the following address:

FAQs

Ques. What is the selection criteria for NIFT for Foreign Nationals?

Ans. Foreign Nationals (whether residing in India or abroad) and Non Resident Indians, who are citizens of India holding an Indian passport and have temporarily immigrated to another country for six months or more for work, residence or any other purpose and who meet eligibility and admission requirements of NIFT are eligible for admission. The selection of eligible candidates will be based on their SAT (B.Des & B.FTech)/GMAT (MFM)/GRE (M.Des & M.FTech) scores.

Ques. What is the number of seats for foreign nationals at NIFT?

Ans. 5 (supernumerary) seats each at NIFT Campuses at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Gandhinagar, Raebareli & Srinagar (J&K) and 3 (supernumerary) seats each at the campus of Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Jodhpur, Kangra, Kannur, Patna and Shillong.

Ques. Can the admission get canceled?

Ans. Yes, in case NIFT is not satisfied with the character of a candidate or if it is found that a candidate secured admission on the basis of false information or if the candidate does not report to the allotted campus within 7 days of commencement of session, the admission gets canceled.

Admission :

Creative Ability Test (CAT), General Ability Test (GAT) and situation test. These are the three stages which concludes the entrance exam. This includes an logical reasoning, math and English test called GAT, CAT is where you will be given some crafts like paper and tools you have to create something out of it.

Remarks :

College is really well organised that way, director keeps on trying to motivate students as like there is a games room, fussball table, bean bags, plantation, wall painting competition with good amount for the winners.
