I chose this college without planning as I couldn't get a desired seat in IIT. But I think it was for good. The course is a wonderful primer on the path of becoming a scientist. Compared to other colleges, IISER Berhampur has a quite good faculty: student ratio. But most of them are pretty good as people and as teachers. We manage to conduct all classes without fail. But I'd like to see an increase in the number so that the research area can be broadened. The faculty here have all completed their Ph.D. and postdoc and all have some good prior experience in research and teaching. I like most of the instructors that have taught me except for a few one or two. The exam schedule is given right with the calendar release of each semester before the semester starts. Sometimes there might be changes in the schedule but we are informed around 2-3 weeks earlier in that case. Exams are not hard to pass if you attend classes and study sincerely. Questions are not asked beyond the concepts being taught.
IISER Bpr offers cutting-edge scientific research facilities. If you want to succeed in science, IISERs are the place to be, since they provide research training with cutting-edge technology and instruments from a young age. The professors at any IISER are highly qualified and prominent scientists from institutions such as MIT, Harvard, Princeton, Stanford, Tier, IISc, and many others around the world. Due to a large number of pupils, the faculty: student ratio stands out as a deficit. Semesters are typically four months long, with assessments based on projects, quizzes, assignments, lab work, mid-sem, and end-sem. The questions in the exam are quite challenging and require deep understanding, one needs to analyze the course with great understanding to excel in the exam.
I did opt for this course because I was very eager about research studies. IISER is a college that allows vast opportunities for research in physics, chemistry, biology, maths, earth, and environmental sciences, engineering physics, engineering biology, and engineering chemistry. So, if anyone wishes to be absorbed in the research field, IISER is the best college for him/her. Faculty: student ratio is almost 1:70 which is perfect for an ideal education system. All the faculties are highly educated and have done Ph.D. and Post Doc. from distinguished institutions. The teaching method is mainly through slides. The teacher explains the concepts on the blackboard and also provides ready-made slides describing everything that has been taught in the class that day. There is a total of 2 semesters in one year. Each semester has 2 exams- mid-semester and end semester. So, in total there are 4 exams in a year. It is not at all difficult to pass but one has to study sincerely.
If you only think about your placement then don't go for it but if you want to be a researcher/scientist then IISER is the best option for you. There are lots of highly educated faculty in our institute. Their teaching method is really awesome. You ask them any doubt at any time. Yeah, exams are a little bit difficult. After choosing a major in your 3rd year you'll find the difficulties.
According to me, this is a very helpful course if you want to go into research fields. The students who love to explore the subjects and like to study basic science will definitely get the importance of this course. In my college, the faculties are very helpful and generous. They always try to show you different paths of exploring the subjects and the philosophy behind them. This helps students a lot to think differently.
There are three channels to get admissions from- IAT, KVPY, and JEE Advanced, with 25% seats for KVPY and JEE and the rest for IAT. Eligibility to appear in these exams (JEE, IAT): Fresh 12th graduate or dropper for 1 year. One can find the application form, fees, and dates by checking the official IISER admissions website. The portal opens around April each year. This year (2023), the application portal will open on 15th April and the entrance examination (IAT) is scheduled to be on 17 June. You can check the NTA website for JEE dates and the KVPY website for the KVPY exam. I suggest going for IAT as it's the easiest exam among these three and also reserves the highest number of seats.
BDBy - Bindusmita DasAdmission to any IISER involves clearing one of two entrance exams, JEE Advanced or IAT. To apply for the SCB channel (IAT exam), a student must belong to the top 20% of their particular board in their 10+2. Application forms are often available on the IISER admissions website in May or April. The following reservations are available for the exam: General, EWS, OBC/OBC-NCL, SC, ST, and KM. The cutoff for Jee adv is between 12000 to 15000 or an IAT score of 75 or higher.
DCBy - Debapriya ChatterjeeAdmission to any of the 7 IISER colleges can be obtained through 3 processes or 3 channels:- JEE advanced channel, KVPY channel, and SCB channel. If any student has obtained a rank under 15,000 in JEE Advanced, he/she can apply for admission to IISERs. In the case of the KVPY channel, if anyone has qualified KVPY in class 11 or 12, he/she can apply for admission in IISERs. In the case of the SCB channel, a student has to sit in an entrance exam named IAT or IISER Admission Test. Then, depending on his/her rank in the IAT exam, he/she gets admission to IISER colleges. A student is eligible for admission in iiser only 2 times i.e. the year in which he/she has passed his/her 12 th board exams
