Faculty of Veterinary Science and Animal Husbandry, Ranchi, Jharkhand is one of the very reputed colleges. The college expanded and prospered under the guidance and leadership of (Late) Col. Dr. S. M. Ishaque, G.B.V.C., P.G (Germany), F.R.V.C.S (Sweden) who joined as the first principal. He made sure that the infrastructure of the college met the objectives of the students and hence, played an important role in establishing hostels, residential units and even the main building. The college was earlier a constituent college of the Ranchi University. It functioned under the department of state animal husbandry till the year 1970. However, the college later became an essential constituent of Rajendra Agricultural University (RAU) with its establishment in the year 1971 at Pusa, Samastipur. The college earlier offered only undergraduate courses and programs. However, from the year 1972, the college started offering post graduate courses in as many as six disciplines. It really helped the students. The programs were later expanded to all major disciplines from the year 1977.

1.ActiveResearch Activities –The college has been playing a crucial role to solve many problems that have been prevalent in the field of agriculture. The college makes sure that the problems related to livestock farmers and that to poultry farmers present in the state is solved. The college even helps improve the state of production of livestock by the means of research activities that are need based.

2. National Service Scheme (NSS) –The unit of National Service Scheme functions under the Veterinary faculty as per the objectives of the NSS. The students at the college actively participate in several activities that have been organized by the NSS like the Prophylactic measures against the livestock diseases, poultry diseases, organizing livestock health camps, educating farmers in the rural areas and many others.
