IGNFA Facilities

Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy has state-of-the-art facilities to provide for its students. 

    • Campus: The Academy is located in the beautiful New Forest campus which is about 5 kilometres west of the city centre of Dehradun. The campus settles renowned Forest Research Institute and is of 1100 acres bounded by the river Tons in the north and Chakrata road in the south. The campus is situated at an altitude of 670 m. above mean sea level and the large parts of the campus are still covered with natural forest and dense experimental plantations due to which it receives over 200 cm of rainfall annually. It can be best approached from Dehradun city through Chakrata road.
    • Hostel: The academy campus also provides Hostels, Guesthouse, Auditorium and playgrounds, whereas the housing colony for the faculty and staff is located on Chakrata road opposite the New Forest campus.
    • Library: The institute has a fully equipped library available on campus for the students. The academy has an IGNFA Newsletter – The Jungle Book was an initiative brought up in 2012, is an exhibition of the literary and creative talents of officer trainees.
    • Infrastructure: They have well-equipped lecture rooms that have all the necessary amenities. 
    • Training Room: The academy also has training rooms where probationers learn to deal with problems that might arise in the forests. They also have gun training rooms where they practice using weapons.
  • Clubs: Students are provided with many activities they can join. There are clubs like The Nature Club, Cultural Club, Movie Club, Literary Club, Computer Club, and Sports Club. Students

IGNFA Faculty

IGNFA is placed directly under the administrative control of the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MOEF), Government of India (GOI) and has a total of 12 faculty members headed by the Director who is aided by a team of Additional Director, Professors, Additional Professors, Associate Professors, P.T. & Sports Officer and others. Ques. Is there any test that an officer has to go through at IGNFA?

  • qualifying tests.

Each discipline like the written and practical exam, exercise tours, and such will have set maximum marks that will be available to the students. The probationers must have a minimum total to qualify as an IFS officer.
