APCC Kolkata Admission

APCC Kolkata Scholarships

To provide financial assistance to the poor & meritorious students, Acharya Prafulla Chandra College, Kolkata provides various scholarships:

  1. Stipends & Free Studentship- To help the poor and meritorious students, Acharya Prafulla Chandra College, Kolkata grants free Studentship/ Half- free Studentship. Students from Scheduled Castes and Tribes and Other Backward Classes and Minority Communities are entitled to special stipends.
  2. Medhabritti Prakalpa of the Students’ Union- In the year 2014, the Students’ Union introduced a Merit Scholarship Scheme for the meritorious but poor students. A scholarship equivalent to six months’ college fees shall be granted to the students securing the highest marks in the second and third-year classes of B.A. as well as B.Sc. streams.
  3. Students’ Benevolent Fund- This project is entirely funded by the teachers of APCC. The aim of Students’ Benevolent Fund is to provide financial aid to the poor yet meritorious students of the college.

APCC Kolkata Facilities

To cater to the need of the students and the staff, Acharya Prafulla Chandra College, Kolkata provides a variety of facilities. These include:

  • Hostels: Separate hostels are provided to boys and girls. Girls’ hostel has a capacity of 80 students. Boys’ hostel is available for the SC/ ST/ OBC students of the district with a capacity of 80 students.
  • Medical Facilities: Recently, a policy named ‘Students Safety Insurance Policy’ of United India Insurance Company Limited has been introduced. The college plans to include all students under this scheme. A 16 station multi gymnasium has been installed under the supervision of a trained instructor. 
  • Laboratories: Sophisticated and well-equipped laboratories are made available in the departments of Chemistry, Computer Science, Physics, Statistics, Mathematics, Electronics, Anthropology, Botany, Food & nutrition, Zoology.
  • Sports: The college provides several infrastructural sports facilities to the students. These include a playground, basketball court, volleyball court, badminton court, 16 station multi gym equipment, indoor games like table tennis, carom and chess.
  • Seminar Hall: The college has an air-conditioned seminar room with advance technical facilities which is used for debates, seminars, council meeting and society’s events etc.
  • Auditorium: There is a fully furnished 2 tier auditorium with a sitting capacity of 750.
  • Internet: Computer laboratories have been networked using LAN by 32/16-bit switches. The college has been provided with twenty landlines with broadband connection distributed in different departments. Ten of these have wireless modem because of which most of the lab-based departments already have a Wi-Fi enabled environment. Work is in progress to set up a separate broadband network to make the entire campus Wi-Fi enabled.

Ques. What is the ‘Students Safety Insurance Policy’ that APCC Kolkata has implemented for its students?

Ans. ‘Students Safety Insurance Policy’ of United India Insurance Company Limited provides insurance support to the policyholder in case of an accident as per the laid terms and conditions. An amount of Rs. 112/- plus the service tax @14.5% is to be paid towards the annual premium of this scheme.

Ques. What is the eligibility criterion to apply for Stipends & Free Studentship at APCC Kolkata?

Ans. To apply for Free Studentship, the student must have secured at least 50% marks (boys) and 45% marks (girls) in the last qualifying examination. At least 15% of the total students in the college are granted a concession. Scheduled Castes and Tribes Students, Other Backward Classes and Minority Communities Students are entitled to special stipends.

Ques. What is the procedure to apply for Stipends & Free Studentship at APCC Kolkata?

Ans. The applications for Free Studentship must be addressed to the Principal in the prescribed form by the eligible students within the set dates. For Special Stipends, the students must properly fill the prescribed forms and send them through the Principal to the concerned government officials authorized to release the grants.

Ans. An Annual Cultural Programme (Social) is organized every year with great zeal. Students actively perform and participate in the same. Every year during September, ‘Nabin Baran’ is organized as a grand welcome for the Freshers of B.A. / B.Sc. course. Inside the college various competitions like quiz, creative writing, debate, extempore, singing, recitation etc. are organized. Students also participate in Youth Parliament Programmes annually for which the financial support is provided by the Government of West Bengal.

Ans. Remedial Coaching has been introduced during the XIth plan period of UGC in order to improve academic skills and strengthen knowledge of backward groups of SC, ST, OBC (non-creamy layer) and minority communities. Extra classes shall be provided which shall be taken by the college teachers, retired teachers, research scholars etc. General students who need these classes may also be allowed.
