Established on September 29, 1950, Government Medical College (GMC), Patiala is the second oldest college in the State of Punjab. The college’s mission is to be a globally acclaimed institution that is recognized for excellence in medical education, scientific research, and medical care. The college serves a population of 20 lakhs. The college also supports various kinds of research for new diseases.
Government Medical College is affiliated to Baba Farid University of Medical Sciences. All the courses provided by the college are approved by the Medical Council of India (MCI) and the college is approved by UGC.

GMCP Admissions
For Diploma courses, admissions are done based on the merit list issued by the college. Candidates must have passed Higher Secondary Examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology or Biotechnology as compulsory subjects with 50% aggregate marks. For the candidates belonging to SC/ ST, the minimum qualifying marks in PCB is 40%.
Candidates who are selected at the time of counseling need to appear for medical examination and fee deposition on the dates issued by the counseling board. Additionally, some Physically Handicapped candidates also have to appear before the Medical Board for assessment.
For MBBS, B.Sc, and Nursing courses, the selection of students is done on the basis of performance of the candidate in NEET conducted by CBSE along with National Level Counselling. Candidates who have a valid rank in PPMET are also eligible to apply to the college.
Any candidate can apply for NEET for a maximum of three times. Counseling is first conducted online and then offline. Candidates who are selected during the online counseling process will have to visit the college on a provisional basis and admissions are confirmed only once the fee is deposited and the documents are verified.
For admission to MD and MS courses, the merit list is prepared by the college based on the single-window entrance exam, that is, NEET-PG.
Candidates who have graduated in MBBS and have done at least one year of internship are eligible to apply to the college.
