What is BTech?

B Tech or Bachelor of Technology is a 4-year professional engineering program. The engineering course is usually divided into 8 semesters and during the first-year special emphasis is put on key science subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Later, candidates get multiple specializations to choose like Computer Science, Mechanical, Biotechnology, Civil, Electronics and Communication (ECE), Electrical, Chemical, etc.

In short, BTech or Bachelor of Technology is an undergraduate degree course that enables a particular individual to become an engineer.  Majority of course curriculum for BTech and BE Course is similar thus there is nothing to be confused about. According to Latin, engineering means to create something using one's cleverness.

Note: Students who wish to pursue their eduction in Management field or get a career boost, can check MBA course.

The basic eligibility requirement to study BTech is that the student must be from a science background i.e the student must study Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in class 12. Some institutions demand special requirements according to their choice.

Which are the best BTech Specializations?

These are just some of the Btech specializations. Continue reading to find more details.

How to do BTech after 12th?

Candidates, after qualifying 10+2 exams from a recognized university, have to apply for an entrance exam for admission to top engineering colleges in India. The entrance exams are conducted on national, state, and university levels. One of the most appeared for the entrance exam is JEE Main. JEE Main is your gateway to colleges such as IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other private institutes as well. Check BTech Admissions.

To be eligible for the BTech engineering course, you should have passed Class 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. However, the eligibility criteria may vary from institute to institute.

Renowned engineering colleges like IITs, NITs, IIITs, and other private institutes as well consider the score of JEE Main or JEE Advanced for BTech admission. There are various state-level Engineering exams like MHT CET, PTU CET, UPSEE, WBJEE, etc, as well.

The average fee charged for the BTech course is INR 1.5-2 lakh per annum. However, the course fee also varies from college to college. IITs charge between 1-1.5 Lakhs per annum while colleges such as VIT charge between 3-4 Lakhs per annum. Some BTech Specialisations are also available in distance mode. Although Distance Education for BTech maybe a smart and less costly affair but it is advisable to have a regular BTech Course.

Students after completing BTech has many options from doing their MTech, PhD. MBA Course is becoming a growing trend among students who complete their BTech Course. MBA offers high MBA Job Opportunities with higher salary for the students.

The average salary offered by the companies after BTech course completion ranges from INR 5-10 lakhs per annum. The average campusing from IITs ranges from INR 15 Lakhs to INR 20 Lakhs.  There are several cases where candidates had been offered a package of INR 2 crores per annum depending upon the years of experience and skills.

Am I Eligible to Pursue BTech ?

To know whether you are eligible to Pursue a BTech course or not, check the list of eligibility criteria to be fulfilled:

  • You must complete 10+2 or equivalent examinations from a recognized educational board like CBSE, ICSE, etc.
  • You should possess a minimum of 60% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics combined.
  • Students belonging to SC/ST are eligible for 5% relaxation in the aggregate and qualifying marks.
  • If you have qualified JEE Mains or any other equivalent entrance examination, then you must submit your scorecard during the admission, as scores of such exams are mandatory.

How to Do BTech after 12th?

The usual way to gain admission to a BTech course is through cracking entrances. Most of the BTech colleges accept the national level entrance exams like the JEE Main and JEE Advanced, but few engineering colleges also conduct their autonomous entrance exams.

Following are the steps of how to do BTech after 12th in detail:

Step 1: BTech Engineering Entrance Examinations

After appearing for 10+2 exams, candidates need to apply, appear and crack the Engineering entrances. Students can apply to these exams by going into the respective portals and uploading the documents like academic certificates, age proof, identity proof,  etc. Do not forget to pay the application fees after a successful application.

For admissions to various IIT, candidates will have to crack JEE Main and  JEE Advanced. However, there are plenty of state entrances like MHT CET, WBJEE, OJEE, KCET, etc. Candidates can also consider autonomous colleges for admissions and in such cases, they will have to clear university level exams like MI Entrance Exam (Jamia Millia Islamia), MET (Manipal Institute) etc.

Step 2: Release of Results

After the results of the entrances come out, aspirants willing to get into IITs and NITs will have to take part in JoSAA (Joint Seat Allocation Authority). Candidates willing to seek admission to other colleges will go for the Counselling round after the results are released.

Step 3: Counselling

In this round, based on the merit list, marks obtained in the entrances, and the category into which each candidate falls, the counseling board decides to allot colleges and courses to students.

Step 4: Admission Offer

After the counseling process is done successfully, admission to the most suitable college is offered to the aspirants. Once the student accepts the admission offers, he/she is asked to make further payments for admission confirmation.

Step 5: Verification

In this round, students are called to verify the original documents after their admission is confirmed.

There are BTech colleges like BITS Pilani/Mesra, Banasthali Vidyapith, ICFAI Foundation For Higher Education, etc where students can apply without JEE. However, in that case, these universities can definitely conduct their own admission tests to crack.

However, there can be very few colleges granting admission to the course through merit or management quota.

Note: Ensure to keep on checking all the important websites to not miss out on any important updates on exams, courses, and admission. Check BTech Admission Process in detail.

What are the BTech Entrance Exams?

There are nation-wide, state-wise, and university-wise BTech engineering entrance examinations conducted for admission to the B Tech course. A few of them are discussed below:

  • JEE Main/ Advanced: Joint Entrance Examination is a national level entrance examination conducted by the NTA and the score is accepted widely by NITs, IITs, and the majority of technical universities and institutes in India. Those who qualify JEE Mains get to appear in JEE Advanced. All the top prestigious institutes of the country accept the JEE Mains score for admission in the BTech course.
