Ques. How is Giani Zail Singh College PTU Campus Bathinda for a B.Arch?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 07 Sept 21

Ans. Giani Zail Singh College is one of the oldest and reputed colleges when it comes to B.Arch. It is ranked at the 2nd position in Punjab. The professors of the B.Arch department are well-learned and great at teaching. The alumni network of the college is good and some of them are placed in reputed companies and organizations. The college will engage you more in extracurricular activities to help you learn the management of events.  There is only one disadvantage at Giani Zail Singh College is the lack of placements. There are no good opportunities available especially for B.Arch. Many of my friends have opened their own consultancy firms.  If you have other options available, then go for them first because Giani Zail Singh College will disappoint you in terms of exposure.Read more

Ques. Which college should I choose for a B.Arch. under the NIT/SPA?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 31 Aug 21

Ans. Firstly a hearty congratulations to you for scoring a good rank in JEE Main. However, it is quite difficult to get a seat at SPA Delhi in this rank. The 2nd best option can be SPA Bhopal. Moreover, SPA Vijayawada is relatively newer and cannot be trusted. I have friends studying at both Bhopal and Vijayawada, from what I've heard, Bhopal is a better option. SPAs are purely design institutes and thus the exposure would be greater.  Since your chances at SPA D are quite on edge, you can instead look for the following colleges in order of preference:  NIT Nagpur> NIT Bhopal> SPA Bhopal> NIT Jaipur> SPA Vijayawada and so on. If you want to go for NITs, choose the one with better infrastructure, weather, and a diverse crowd. There are many other good institutes as well but do your proper research and take the right decision for yourself. Read more

Ques. Which one is better, NIT Calicut CSE or IIT KGP agricultural?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 27 Aug 21

Ans. One thing I can assure you now is that no matter what others say you should take the branch you prefer.  If you wish for the CSE branch then go with NIT Calicut. Do not choose a college just based on its nametag. Because if it is not a popular branch, it will provide lesser opportunities. Even if the college is IIT. Do not go if it is not your preferred branch. Getting a branch change is almost impossible in IIT after 1st year due to stiff competition. CSE from NIT Calicut will provide better job opportunities. Categories CSE at NIT Calicut Agriculture at IIT KGP Course Fee 5.48 lakh 8.38 lakh Highest CTC 24 LPA 8-10 LPA Average CTC 17-18 LPA 3 LPA Recruiting Companies Oracle, Accenture, HP, IBM, etc. TAFE, Jain Irrigation, Mahindra & Mahindra, Sonalika, etc. If you wish for the IIT tag there are alternative options, with your JEE Advanced Rank you might get ECE or EEE in any of the new IITs like Indore, Hyderabad, Gandhinagar, Tirupathi, and Dharwad, etc. Try checking with the cutoffs from last year.Read more

Ques. How is architecture in NIT Calicut?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 26 Aug 21

Ans. NIT Calicut is a technical institute and if you are looking for creative freedom and you are being overly ambitious, it is not the right choice. You would fare much better in any arts college or any other design college. If however, you are looking for technical knowledge, then it is probably a very good institute. You will definitely learn enough to score a great rank in GATE or become a great professional doing a postgraduate later.  Pursuing Architecture from NIT Calicut will make you a very organized professional. You may or may not like it, but you will also have to run behind professors to learn from them.  You will be given strict deadlines for project and assignment submissions. You will definitely toil it out here and become hard-working. If you are thinking of flexibility, then NIT Calicut is not for you. As for the placements, it is not really great. Check the following table for recent placement data:  Particulars B.Arch at NIT Calicut Total Registered Students 15 Total Placed Students 2 Highest Salary 8 LPA Average Salary 7 LPA Placement Percentage 13.33% Decide beforehand what you want, creative freedom, or strict deadlines. Campus Life :

The campus life is the best thing about IIEST Shibpur. Since many opt for residential stay in hostels, it is heaven for them. The campus is always active and abuzz, especially after classes and during lunch. There are multiple activities all round the year which culminates in the Annual Fest REBECA and the multiple tech, literary and social fests like INSTRUO, OIKOTAAN and so on. The college library is heaven for bookworms. There is an impressive collection of not just academic but also leisure books. The best part about the library is its setting and ambience which can make anyone fall in love with reading and libraries. Classrooms are well-kept, and have necessary amenities like projection, foldable desks and storage. The college sees multiple sports activities throughout the year, from inter-hostel to inter-faculty and students activities. There are number of societies and clubs for you to be part of - photography, debate, literature, quiz, dance and what not.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Fees Structure and Hike Policy is completely as per the regulations of NITs and IITs because IIEST falls under them. Therefore, for my batch (2015-20) semester fees was 38.5k, whereas for current batches it is 68k (this depends on NITs and IITS policies). There are also additional costs in study because you have to (a) purchase stationery items regularly (b) stay in campus and endure hostel, mess and other charges depending on how often you go out to eat with friends, etc and (c) occasional case studies, tours and site visits. Of course, when you are staying in a residential campus there are other costs. However, you have the option of not staying at hostels and continuing as a day scholar. There are multiple scholarships to avail of by meritorious as well as needy students. There are tuition wee waivers (full) for most students. There are also multiple opportunities to work while on campus and earn a stipend of up to 10k (I have done this) every month.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The B.Arch is a 5-year course and the course curriculum is expansive yet very enriching. The faculty student ratio is very impressive, it is 2:1 for students to teachers in every batch. The faculty members are all highly qualified, with double PhDs and extensive on-field experience as well. The teaching methods encompass not just classroom learning but also occasional case studies, site visits, educational tours throughout India and multiple workshops every month. There are regular seminars and fora, about every 2-3 weeks for students to learn from professionals in the field and also reputed academicians. The term exams are held semester-wise (every 6 months) but the 'sessionals' are evaluated on a daily basis in the Design Studios. Although the examinations are not very easy to pass if you do not study at all, they can be cleared with flying colors with the right effort.

Faculty student ratio is 1:30, faculties are so knowledgeable and friendly we can even meet them after college also if accessible, they teaching techniques involves very interesting methods they share their work also and guide us how to choose firms for experience overall they are more of a extended family. My experience with exams was so easy, I used to enjoy in exam days because I everyday study was so enough to pass and sometimes even top the subjects.

Remarks :

It is the top college for my course. For b.arch thiagarajar has more years of experience in it say 25 years. And staff quality is good. Plus it has three in one, govt.aided, autonomous and affiliates anna university. And the fee structure is low compared to other college.

College Events :

There are no that much cultural events. But they allow us to do department wise. And they allow us to go to other college events with healthy participation. Yearly once syposium is the biggest event of our college.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Curriculum is well revised every year and the staff quality is the best. Our hod mam jinu kitchely is the best staff of our department. Other than that there are many staff with stuff that are thrived by us.

Campus Life :

The infrastructure of our college is very poor. Social infrastructure like transportation is really in a pathetic condition. The college is situated almost 30 km away from the main town known as Kalpakkam. Hence there is not adequate transportation facility to reach the college from the nearby bus stand. The infrastructure inside the college is very poor. The classrooms are separated by a cardboard partition, during the rainy season there are innumerable leakages and the campus is almost flooded. The rendered image of the campus is very misleading, so don?t fall prey. As an institution teaching architecture the availability of a printing shop is prerequisite. The printers in the shop are non-operational most of the time so the infrastructure is unimaginably poor.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The syllabus is up-to date as of 2017. Yes. We were provided with more than enough industrial exposure. We had regular on-site case study visits and site visits. We visited famous architectural sites and buildings as a part of our educational and recreational trip. The faculties are experienced and knowledgeable in various fields related to our course. My first year faculties Ar. Praveen and Ar. Naveen were extraordinary and the best faculties we have in our college.

College Events :

The campus is so lifeless that few even students discontinue college. The living atmosphere is so bad that students are not able to live their "life". Some of the students are under pressure, so considering their families they adapt to the situation and therefore has no other go. Events and extracurricular activities are minimal because the college doesn't support the students and always milking money from the students even for petty things.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I chose Architecture because my Maternal grandfather was an architect and my father was a contractor, so I had practical knowledge, plus I was good at art, calligraphy, and had scientific knowledge. I had a good sense of color coordination and had a niche for learning design software. So this summed up into this course.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fee is slightly on the higher side and increases by a 2-3 thousand each year for any course semester. There is no campus job as such apart from the media team of amity that includes some worthy students from the media department and a few from other departments.

Campus Life :

Their efforts in satisfying students are continuous. Green campus and good canteen and supportive faculty, air conditioning.More plus points than negatives..least negatives

Campus Life :

We had an amazing social life at crescent and the architecture block was specifically designed to entertain social interaction among the students. There was an annual 2-day design fest held and several cultural programs and design competitions were hosted. We also had clubs that we can a part of and the college offers cultural exchange tours to other countries. In addition to this, we had well-ventilated classrooms with studios, a two-floor library with a fair collection of books, Material lab, Computer lab, Seminar halls, canteens, and Food kiosks. There are indoor and outdoor playgrounds, gymnasiums and hostel facilities as well.

Placement Experience :

Architecture inherently is a profession where one mostly aims to set up his/ her own studio hiring a couple of interns, there are also large scale firms with multiple architects and other concerned professionals but that is rarely the case. So, no we did not have any sort of campus placements although we had a 1-year internship program where we had gained experience from talented architects, we also have successful architects positively criticizing our design every semester. All of these have groomed us well enough to find our jobs on our own.

Course Curriculum Overview :

To become an architect has always been my dream and I'm very glad that I was lucky enough to chase my dream, thanks to the teachers to have made me what I am now. Crescent had a well planned and structured curriculum backed up by hands-on workshops every now and then. The experienced faculties offered their valuable input when needed in addition to thoroughly explaining the concepts schematically. They also guided us through our semester exams putting forward revision sessions.

Admission :

The admission is through an entrance exam. During the early 90's ( I took admission in '91) there used to a scholastic test followed by an aptitude test for the college as it was deemed university. There were 65 seats for architecture and 20 seats for planning all over India. It was not centralised through NEET as it is now. The college had a great reputation and was one of the top three institutes for Architecture in India back then.

College Events :

There is an annual fest called Utopia (it used to called that in 1990's) which was 4 day fest with many competitions, activities, seminars, shows etc involving colleges from Delhi and neighbourhood. There used to be shows from classical musicians under SPICMACAY. Apart from that there used a gathering of architectural colleges which used take place anywhere in India where the college used to actively participate.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Course curriculum was interesting though and there was focus on creative approach to problem solving. It was designed to train oneself to be logical and assertive. While there are views on it being fair, theoretical and relevant to market conditions, people would be unanimous in stating that it was tedious, exhaustive and thorough. This helped in adapting oneself to the market easily when we were exposed to it.

Admission :

I gave my JEE mains paper-2 for the admission. The location of the college was one of the main factors in choosing the college. Bhopal is a quiet pollution free city. Also, at the time it was the only SPA with its own separate campus with hostel facilities on campus. SPA-B is one of the most premier architecture and planning institutions in the country. After online counselling and admissions, you just have to report to college by the given date. If you secure a good enough rank, you can get into the college through online counselling which starts a few weeks after results are declared. JEE has its own website where you register for online counselling. Once you get a seat in the college, either online or live admissions may happen.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The curriculum has vastly improved and the exam systems are fair. Research is encouraged but no relaxation for attendance during competitions is provided so it limits the involvement of many students. No industry specific education is imparted. The college only covers the general knowledge required but faculties are kind and helpful and always ready to help students. There used to be a yearly trip for each batch but that has been cancelled by the College stating a lack of funds even though a fee for that same trip is included in the admission fees.

Campus Life :

Gender ratio- 50/50There is a very active sports life on campus.Students participate in numerous extracurricular activities and the college is always lively. Dorm parties are sadly not allowed and students have to travel outside campus for parties. It is one of the most diverse campuses I have ever seen with students from multiple ethnicities, races and religions, political and economic status. Students worried about being a minority in campus should rest easy as there is no discrimination in the college and they will feel right at home.

Course Curriculum Overview :

After B arch also there are wide range of creative options open for work, and I also don't want monotonous engineering technical life , so I choose this course 1:10 ( there are total 40 students and provides 4 atleast faculties for core subject studio of this course ) Faculties are highly qualified with masters degree , as well as their well know practicing firms in surat and all over world, too, their teaching method is good enough ( both practical as well as in theoretical subjects ) Term exams were timely taken with wide range of experienced and other institutes faculties reviewing on our project, in architecture if u r creative and passionate enough then you will easily pass all semester with regular submission and attendance.

Campus Life :

Artijan fest is done by collaborative work of interior design, architecture and fine arts students in approx Jan month . Library is good enough for any subject reference and design guidance Classrooms are spacious enough for 40 students Many day to day as well as some monthly or yearly sports activities are performed by interested students and even faculties too participate in that GCPIA, GCPIAIF account on Instagram, fb pages daily updates of activities and some good arch info is posted

Placement Experience :

B arch non of the colleges have campus placement , it wholely and solely depends on our skills and what we had done in our academic years . FOCUS more on gaining design studio detailed knowledge and understanding . After getting B arch degree , i will do job for 2_3 to get experience in practical world and then apply for masters.

Campus Life :

The campus life is the BEST thing about IIEST Shibpur. The greenery, riverside breezes and the multiple pockets for students to hang out make 5 years at college worth it. The annual fest REBECA is held around March-April every year and lasts 4 days with music, dance, ramp-walks, celebrities and friends. The campus has a central library that can provide you enough resources - I didn't purchase a single course book all throughout college - thanks to the library! Classrooms are well ventilated and lit, though I cannot say they are ultra modern. They are equipped with projectors and the CAD, GIS labs are air conditioned of course. The Architecture department also has dedicated labs for materials, climate and so on. The college gymnasium has several equipment for those who love to work out. Besides, the institute's annual sports day and frequent sports leagues between different hostels (girls and boys) is fun. There are multiple clubs (from quiz to photography and so on) to be part of.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course follows a well-structured curriculum guided by the Council of Architecture's mandates. Students get to learn a variety of subjects right from their first year up to the fourth year. Each year is divided into two semesters, with different subjects or continuation of previous ones at times. The final two semesters do not have any theory classes. 9th Semester is reserved for professional training where students are to work in an architectural firm compulsorily for 6 months. The final 6 months of college life are dedicated to the Architectural Thesis Dissertation with no regular classes, just one-to-one interaction with their Thesis Supervisors, and occasional reviews. The faculty members are learned and well-experienced. All of them are well-versed in English, in case students coming from other states find it difficult to understand other languages. The teachers are enthusiastic about taking field classes, and educational tours.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

Recently, due to hike in IITs and NITs, there has been fee hike in IIEST as well, which comes under the same bandwagon as the NITs. The current course fee stands at 1.2 lakh per annum. It is likely to hike in subsequent years as well. However, the institute provides full tuition fee waiver to economically and socially backward classes of students, which is a relief to many. Apart from this, there are annual scholarships provided by the alumni association of the institute for meritorious students, such as departmental toppers, economically backward students who perform well in examinations and so on. Students can choose to fill up scholarship forms released annually in the GAABESU section of the institute. Besides, the TEQIP cell of college and the Training and Placement cell helps students avail internships with stipends. I worked for my professional training in Mumbai with an architectural firm that provided me with a monthly stipend.

Campus Life :

The campus life is by far the best ive experienced till now. The gender ratio for our field of study is usually 60-40, wherein 60 being females and 40 being males. Apart from academics, there is a wide range of extra curricular activities and competions held at regular basis. We also have various festivals being celebrated in the campus.

Faculty :

the faculty as mentioned above is quite competent in the northern region holding expertise in the fields of urban design, town planning, transport planning, conservation and many more. The atmosphere created is very friendly for the students. The lectures delivered not only help with the curriculum exams but also in the industry aspect.

Admission :

merit followed by portfolio review followed by interview. I opted for this course since I always had a keen eye on social spaces and their design. i opted for this institute mainly because of the well known faculty status it holds. the patronage the institute follows is incredible.
