B.A. {Hons.} in Political Science: Career Prospects

Politics affects virtually every aspect of social life, including the availability of education, jobs, housing, and healthcare. Whether countries are at war or in a state peace, depends essentially on what governments do and who supports them.

Teaching, research, and publishing are typical occupations for a Political Scientist. Although a career in politics could be considered a typical opportunity for a Political Scientist, it is not a must.

Campaigns and elections are one of the more obvious career choices. Traditional campaign and volunteering jobs in politics can generally be found through individuals and local parties. Careers in campaign management are cyclical as they come and go with election schedules, but there are on-going opportunities with consulting firms or political action committees of interest groups. Political Science proves a useful base for a career in social work, human rights, social or political research, and urban planning.

Ques. How better is Shyam Lal College evening for a B.A. Hons in political science?

● Top Answer By Debdeep Majumder on 03 Nov 21

Ans. One of my friends studied at Shyam Lal College (SLC) Evening. Let me share his views about the college which might give you some information. The overall performance of the faculty is average. Ad-hoc teachers only take regular classes.  The student crowd is not good. Students who are focused on their career are less, therefore have no sense of enthusiasm or competition. The library is not good. Lots of study materials are unavailable. Due to careless teaching and less dedication in studies, the students during the internals are bound to get low scores. No extracurricular activities take place. Societies are for namesake. They exist only on papers. It is suggested that you opt for other colleges because if you are very ambitious, you might get disheartened studying here.Read more

Campus Life :

Campus infrastructure is very good and first hockey turf is also under-construction just because of corona it is stopped also there is synthetic running track ald kho kho ground and netball ground, big green garden with lots of flowers and greenery, college is surrounded by greenery on all sides and no other college student can enter the campus easily because the gaurd eyes are so sharp that they can catch a new face very easily, a big library with books available for all subjects and book bank for students to take book for a complete semester for free and 2 labs with high quality computers and 2 more labs are being constructed, wifi is available for all students with very good speed and library is a peaceful place to read for book lovers and you can spend a full day in library without any intrruption and you can sit in any corner of the college, Two halls are there one the small Auditorium called Sharda hall and other the big auditorium many international conferences had took place in that auditorium also there is place for fashion society students and an open stage is also there sports room for sports students and a good canteen but I will suggest you to eat things in canteen because I didn't found my canteen good for all the time.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Our College is Best considered college according to me because the attendence is mandatory in this college and for that you need to attend the classes and classes are valuable because the teachers teaches well and good, Many societies are there for art, drama, dance even sports are also available and girls get good chance to learn new things everyday and talking of the faculty teachers are soo supportive that even after beign a science student in 12th I am scoring more than 8 SGPA in Political Science Hons which could not be considered cup of tea for a Science student. Digvijay Sir was best teachwr also Gargi mam and Muskan mam other teachers are also good but these are the best ones

Remarks :

Nearest DU college for Girl students of Noida side for regular traveling and Daily updown because it takes only 1 and half hour to reach the college and Trains and college is at Prime location around 1500 meters from Anand vihar ISBT, around 800 meter from Vivek Vihar Railway Station and you can even go by foot to the college from station, also around 950 meters from Dilshad garden metro station. Campus Life :

The college conducts one main fest in the month of FEB for two days. Singers or performers are also called. There are thousands of books in the library which are very useful for the students of different courses. The college conducts sports like cricket , table tennis , basketball and extra curricular activities like dance , music, theater ,NCC etc . The social groups run by students are the Gandhi study circle and the clubs are of dance , music , theatre , photography etc .

Course Curriculum Overview :

I chose this course as I want to enter civil service. There is 1 teacher available for 60 students. The faculties are highly qualified and teach very well and make the concepts as clear as water . In a year , exams are conducted two times i.e in the month of December and may . It wasn't very difficult to pass as the marks of the internals which includes the assignments etc were also included in the overall result.

Placement Experience :

Students can apply from the 1st year itself for the placements. Many companies like the Ballutions , A Photography etc visited the college and offered various jobs to students . The average package was from 15,000 - 35,000. Around 15%of the students get placements every year . After getting the degree I would prepare for civil service .

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course I have opted for is Political Science Hons., Firstly being because that's what was available to me given my percentage other than opting for accountancy or a business course. The faculty here I would say were good but at the same time I haven't had a good communication of any sort. The teachers and staff were well educated and quite experienced. Due to lock down online classes were being held for students that had opted for the same. The exams were supposed to be written first but then they were altered itni assignment based evaluation where you had to solve the assignments and you'd be graded upon that, which was a good experience for me.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

A plus point of option for SOL was it's fees structure. The fees here was minimal, I.e, approximately around Rs 3500. This fees would get less for the people belonging to Sc or St background. Job placements are unheard of by me from here and I feel once I go for higher level then there would be placements available

Campus Life :

School of Open Learning, is an offline university or you could say a study from home. There are classes available along with library access and other facilities but being far from my residence I haven't checked them out.

Admission :

I entered through the cut off list as per my percentage in 12th. The admission procedure included filling the main registration form on the Delhi university website and then I visited the college where I was given a form to fill that belonged to the college. The admission process at Kamla Nehru College is very easy and smooth. The reason I chose this institution is because its proximity from my residence and also it is one of the top 10 colleges under Delhi University. The campus life is very lively and extremely safe, the societies for co curricular activities were amongst the top societies in the DU circuit. I chose this course because I wanted to pursue Mass Communication after my graduation and political science played a huge role in expanding my knowledge about the country and the world. Currently there is no news about the admission procedure for the batch 2020-22. One needs to keep a tab on the official Delhi University website for such information because the administration is very erratic.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Talking about placements it was only meant for Commerce students because the major opportunities that came into the campus were meant for them. Humanities students didn't really benefit from the placement cell. The course in curriculum is very easy and not oppressing at all since it allows students to freely invest their time into other activities as well apart from academics. Attendance is an issue in KNC. Exam structure is as per the UGC guidelines which comes from the DU head office. It is a mix of internals and externals. 2 semesters per year.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

It's is very reasonable and cheap. I myself paid 24K for these three years. That is, 8K per year. Mode of payment was online from the beginning. Exam fees is supposed to be paid by 1st and 2nd years but final year students don't pay anything. You usually have to pay even for getting academic material because that's not available in college. Yes there is enough transparency in fee-breakdown.

Campus Life :

Life at campus becomes how to choose to frame it. By this I mean, it depends on your purpose as to what your main aim is. If academics is your soul purpose, I already explained it + the library of the college is quite good and one of the largest among other DU colleges. Also, books are available. Societies are in abundance and all are very active. Electra, Jhankaar etc for dance. For fashion. For Debate, Poetry, Creative writing, all three in both English and Hindi language. Sports. Enactus for campus dogs care. Yoga and meditation society that holds classes 5 days a week for free of cost. Drama society. Art society. Commerce society (they have one). Maths society and so on. Recently, UPSC Cell is also made. In sports, volleyball ground, basketball ground and football ground are present where students are also seen playing Cricket. The annual fest of college is something many people stay away with. Not worth it. But, society fests are decent.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I already mentioned about faculty members. Choosing this course for me was a reason for passion. If you are really into political happenings of India and the world, only then I will suggest you pursue the course. As being up to date to information is necessary and when you don't have interest it can get difficult to handle. The lectures are held regularly. Internal examinations are taken that consist of 25 marks (10 for written + 10 for assignment + 5 for attendance). Per the paper, only internal examination for these 25 marks is held. Due to time constraints, no other informal exams are held. Yes, teachers would surely ask you questions here and there from current happenings which is usual. Professors also help you with other topics beyond paper if you approach them for knowledge purpose. Overall, a good academic experience is provided.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions :

The fees structure of Motilal Nehru College is the LOWEST among other colleges of DU. I mean IT for my course, I pay about 7500rs for one year and no other such fees other than this. So, one-year fees are less than 8000 for Political science. That's all. Also, the reserved categories and other scholarship prospect are also given. This way you have to pay even less. Recently, the placement cell of MLNC has started on a vivid basis. Now, internship opportunities come more often. Overall, in terms of money, the college is worth it for the course of Political science.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The reason why I have chosen political science honours because I wanna go for civil services exam and this course completes most of this exam's polity syllabus. The faculty was surprisingly so good and most of them are PhD degree holders from JNU and they are so interactive. Student ratio was so bad in my class there are only 10 girls out of 54 students. Term exams happen on time and exams are not so difficult if you attend all lectures you will pass with great marks. Faculty provides all most reading for every topic.

Campus Life :

Campus Life is so good. Every month there is something going on the auditorium. The library is too good fully AC and if someone is not able to find any book he/she can ask for help and if someone wants a new book that is not available in the library he can write a letter to library in-charge and that book will be available within a week. NCC is good. Sports events. Cricket teams. Fashion society and Art and cultural society North East students society etc.

Placement Experience :

After getting the degree I will prepare for SSC or Civil services exam. Political science honours have very low placement availability but the placement cell is so active these days.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course is really interesting as you very well relate it to the present day situation. Politics is part of our everyday life people whether they know or dnt know alway talks the Government, it's policies, pros and cons etcc. the course help us to understand in depth what politics is all about how it affect our lives and the decision making process. As a first year student the is absolutely relevant and is a detailed version of what we had studied till class 12. The faculty of political science in KNC is truly dedicated and hard working. Teachers really take interest in teaching and doubt of the students is cleared in tutorial classes as well.

Remarks :

The college really has a good faculty for my course, teachers are quiet cordial and have good command over their subject. The canteen and library are also nice in our college. Societies in our college are really dedicated towards their work and they provides enough opportunities to enhance our abilities in that field. The ground is really big in size all the fest and diwali mela can be easily arranged without crowding issue. But the infrastructure of the college is not so good but overall the college is really nice in terms of quality education in my stream.

Campus Life :

Our college is provided with wifi faculty but their is a lot of network issue. The size of library is too huge with proper sitting arrangements and books are mostly available in the library though it's not an air conditioned library but the ventilation in the library is really good. For sports we have badminton court, cricket, basketball etcc though I not much aware about the sports faculty.
