What is LLB?

LLB or Bachelor of Legislative Law is an undergraduate law degree which is a prerequisite for anyone who wants to enter the field of judiciary and law. The course is of 3 years, which helps to develop skills like problem-solving, communication, and judgment.

There are more than 1200 LLB colleges in India, which include many top national universities like Delhi University, BHU, Symbiosis Law School, etc. LLB Admission is done through both entrance exams and based on the performance in class 12.

Note: The Bar Council of India (BCI) does not accept Distance, Correspondence or Online modes of Law Education.

Average LLB course fees range from INR 1 to 2 LPA. However, the fees vary depending upon the colleges. You can study LLB in less than INR 20,000 from the Faculty of Law, Delhi University, and under INR 7 Lakhs from Symbiosis Law College, Pune.

What are the Eligibility Requirements for LLB?

The following are the eligibility criteria that are needed to be fulfilled by the aspirants.

  • If you want to pursue law after Class XII, then you need to go for a course like BA LLB, BSc LLB, etc. For that, you should have scored at least 45% in Class XII and qualify the entrance test required for admission in LLB courses.
  • However, for pursuing a simple LLB course, you need to have completed your graduation from a recognized college.
  • If you are already a graduate (any stream and any course), then you simply can pursue LLB for 3 years through qualifying the required entrance exams.
  • There is no age limit to pursue LLB courses in India.

Hi Avnsatya, it totally depends on the college/university in which you are applying for admission as in some of the colleges, score in intermediate is given preference at the time of admission while others conduct an entrance exam. Generally, for admission in LLB, graduation marks are not considered.

Hi, generally, LLB is offered as a regular course only. This depends on the college/university in which you are applying for admission as colleges that are recognized by BCI do not support LLB course through distance learning. However, from the colleges that are not BCI-recognized, you may pursue LLB as a correspondence course and it will held same value.

Hi Prapti, no two courses can be pursued simultaneously. Therefore, you cannot apply for admission to LLB while you are doing B.Com. However, you can appear in the entrance exam if you satisfy the eligibility criteria for the same.

Hi Gurpreet, there are few books name for CLAT exam preparation are- The Pearson Guide to the CLAT by Harsh Gagrani, and CLAT Solved & Previous Year Paper by A.P. Bhardwaj. The date of the exam is not declared yet on the official website.

Hi Shruti, generally, LLB can be done as a 5 year course as well as a 3 year course.

For 5 year LLB course, candidate needs to have passed intermediate while for 3 year LLB course, graduation (in any stream) is considered as an eligibility criterion. However, minimum percentage criteria may vary from college to college. Thus, you may take any of the above mentioned courses for pursuing LLB in accordance to your interest and field of specialization.
