Course Structure:

The course is a combination of classroom teaching along with practical training compulsory for all students to successfully complete their degree course. The course has a well defined structure where students are taught the basics and fundamentals of theory in the class and they have to perform and analyze these fundamental concepts during their practical classes.

The practical classes provide the real-life situation to the students and it gives them the hands-on experience which shall be necessary for them during the course of their career. Generally on an average four courses are offered as practical courses while the others are theory based.

Scheme of Assessment:

The scheme of assessment is divided between the internal assessment and the external assessment which is based on the examinations. The papers are accompanied by practical and these practical examinations also have a similar assessment criterion. The division of marks is as:

The major focus of this paper is on the electronic devices and circuits and microelectronics along with electronics fundamentals and applications necessary for engineers and scientists.

Electronic Circuits and their Applications

Amplifiers, oscillators, high frequency devices, integrated circuits.

This paper is to make students acquainted with integrated electronics.

Energy Physics

Conventional sources of energy, solar energy, biomass energy fundamentals, biomass utilization, and other forms of energy sources.

The paper focuses on the renewable sources of energy and their environmental impacts.

Instrumentation Analysis

Visible, UV and IR Spectroscopy, X-Rays and Laser, Raman and NMR Spectroscopy, Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry, Analyzing Instruments.

The paper is about the instrumental methods of chemical analysis.

Laser Physics

Fundamentals of LASER, Production of LASER, Industrial Applications of LASER, Lasers in Medicine, Lasers in Communication.

The paper is essential to this course as it deals with the laser fundamentals, its theory and application.

Industrial Instrumentation

Measurements of Motion, Pressure Measurements, Temperature Measurements, Acoustic Measurements, Measurement of Flow.

Electrical and Electronic Instrumentation

The course focuses on the principles of network theorems and signal conditioning systems.

Digital Electronics

Number System and Logic Gates, Simplification of Logic Expressions, Combinational Logic Systems, Sequential Logic Systems, Digital Instruments.

Digital computer electronics deals with Boolean algebra and combinational logic systems etc.

Electrical Mechanics

Ans. I have a few friends from Swami Shraddhanand College. Based on their experience, it is a good option for pushing a B.Sc (Hons.) in Physics.  Placement at the institute is based on the experience that you gain through internships. Salaries in the placement drive are offered according to your skill and experience. Companies like ICICI Bank, HDFC, visit the campus for placements.  There is an internship cell on campus that helps students get internship offers.  The college also has a commerce department, that deals with activities related to business, marketing, etc. The infrastructure of the institute is quite good. There are facilities like wifi, computer labs, smart classes, a library, etc.  Overall, Swami Shraddhanand College offers good placement and facilities for the Physics department. Read more

Ans. If you consider the physics branch, Deshbandhu college is a better choice. Here are some reasons to consider it over Swami Shraddhanand College for a B.Sc in physics: Their physics department is really good with a highly experienced faculty. They have good laboratories and over 20 lab assistants in the physics department. The library consists of a really good collection of Physics books as well as other reading and research materials. Their students' performance is very good in exams like JAM or JEST. They have a Physics Society and many activities are organized by this society of Deshbandhu college. It is said to be really good. If you are thinking of college placements and it is your concern then forget to get placed from any of these colleges.  The only way is to prepare for IIT JAM, JEST, etc. exams for further studies in physics. The connectivity of transportation of Deshbandhu college is better than the Swami Shraddhanand college because it is far away outside Delhi that is the college is located on karnal GT road. Therefore, choose the one that meets your requirements.Read more

Ques. How is Fergusson College Pune for BSc in physics?

Ans. If physics is your passion, and you genuinely want to learn, this is not the place for you. One of my friends studied here and these are some things he mentioned. The faculty is good but they have limited course material. You would not feel like you have learned much.  Most students take up physics in their final years because they know they can easily memorize the course material and pass. This is just so that they can improve their grades.  Mugging up theories is definitely not how someone can learn science.  They don’t have a real interest in the subject anyway and they would be your peers. The system at Fergusson is not great and you wouldn’t want to attend classes as it would not matter and you will pass your exams regardless. If you are only looking for a college life minus the studies and want to have some fun with fests and events, by all means, join Fergusson because marks and knowledge are secondary here.Read more

Ans. There are two options that you can pursue after an integrated M.Sc in photonics at CUSAT. Industry Jobs - The jobs offered by the photonics industry of India are mostly sales. Yes, there are jobs in the telecommunications industry especially in the fiber optics sector which could fetch you some very good technical roles as well. Research - Photonics is one of the very interesting topics to research upon. The field offers some very good opportunities in India as well as abroad. However, very few educational institutions in India have a photonics department and they also prefer physics students when they hire their professors. So getting a teaching job may also become difficult. Anyway, if you are really interested in the subject then nothing should come between your choice because opportunities will appear over time.Read more

Ans. First of all look for the eligibility of the course that is B.Sc in Physics at Amity University. Currently, any student with a minimum of 50% marks in the 10+2 system and a minimum of 50% in Physics is required to be eligible to apply for the course at the university. After that, there are various ways of getting selected into the program. The various selection procedures are explained below – General Procedure – There will be an admission test followed by group discussion and finally an interview. Of course, this is not applicable for every course and this differs slightly based on the specific course. Scholarship-cum-fast track admission – This is applicable for all courses at the university including B.Sc in Physics excluding some courses such as architecture, design, education, fine arts, law, and physical education. Direct admission – Anyone who has secured the following set of aggregate marks in the class 12th can apply for direct admission to the university along with receiving a scholarship in terms of academic fee. 93% and above – 100% scholarship to be received and applicable for all campuses. 90% and above for Noida campus and 88% and above for other campuses – 50% scholarship will be provided 80% and above for Jaipur, Kolkata, and Lucknow campuses, 75% and above for Mumbai and Greater Noida campuses, and 70% and above for Ranchi, Gwalior and Raipur campuses will receive 25% scholarship. However, keep in mind that scholarships are provided to a limited number of students and thus there are a limited number of seats under this scheme.
