B. Tech. Automotive Design Engineering is an undergraduate level engineering course which trains the students on a range of topics including designing, manufacturing, and maintenance of automobiles. This 4-year long course includes a wide array of topics on the related aspects of the transportation sector, energy, and environmental concerns, application of fossil and alternative fuels and development of vehicles of the future.

Top Institutes offering this course are:

The job of an Automotive Design Engineer is to create ideas or concepts using rough sketches and computer-aided design (CAD) programs for the visual appearance as well as the functional performance to develop the vehicles. The lucrative field of designing demands a strong portfolio or sample work of designs which may include 2D drawings or 3D art pieces for the placement process. Besides that, an internship with automobile industries is mandatory in almost all the universities to develop a professional portfolio, thereby vital in securing permanent employment after the successful completion of the graduation.

Selection in top colleges for this field is either through JEE Mains ranking or individual entrance examinations conducted by the university such as UPESEAT by UPES University, Dehradun. The last step of the admission process involves counseling sessions as per the marks obtained in the entrance examinations. Some colleges also condu an t interview for the candidates who have cleared the entrance test.

One of the prestigious colleges, Indian Institute of Technology, Madras has a separate Department of Engineering Design which offers a dual degree program in Automotive Design with B.Tech in Engineering Design and M.Tech in Automotive Engineering. The 5 year long integrated course has 10 semesters wherein the last semester is completely dedicated to industrial project training. Candidates who are in the final merit list in the JEE (Advanced) exam are eligible for dual degree program. The average course fee for the program is INR 97,200 per year.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

This I must say, the fee structure of UPES is way-way too high, it is one of the most expensive colleges in India. The average fee in an Indian College is around 70k/semester but at UPES, you've to pay 1.50+Lakhs/semester, this is a huge amount and I must say, for a student like me, coming from average family is too difficult.

Faculty :

The faculty here are of two types, one which is very helpful and with a good attitude, second is the worse kind, they keep demotivating us, put unwanted backlogs, not giving well deserving marks. So we've both kinds of faculties. The teachers which help students like me are great and we have this kind of teachers here

College Events :

We've 2 types of events. One is uurja. Uurja is our cultural fest in which there is dance, singing, fun events, celebrity performance, DJ etc It was full of fun It is of 2 days Second is ignite Ignite is our technical fest in which we've to show our technical skills and we can win prizes
