Course Structure

The course of B. Tech. Dairy Technology is designed in a way which help students understand the concepts of physical chemistry of milk, food chemistry and engineering. The delivery method of the course involves classroom lectures, practical sessions, internships and industrial visits.

There are two semesters in each year and every student needs to pass all the theory as well as practical exams in order to earn their degree. The students might also have to undergo hands-on campus training in various departments of the college. Towards, the end of the course, it is mandatory for the students to undergo an in-plant training and submit a project report regarding the same.

Detailed Syllabus of B. Tech Dairy Technology is as follows:-

Description

Physical Chemistry of Milk  

The course entails to educate the students about the physical composition of milk of different species and its various properties like density, viscosity etc.

Milk Production Management & Dairy Development  

The course objective is to teach the students production of milk and the management and development of dairy products.

Fluid Mechanics 

The objective of the course is to introduce the students to units, dimensions and properties of the fluids.

Fundamentals of Microbiology  

As the name suggests, the main aim of the course is to introduce students to the concept, scope and history of Microbiology.

Moral Value & Education

The course aims to develop a sense of belonging and respect towards the students for fellow human beings and the means to conduct themselves in a moral way in the society.

Thermodynamics  

The course entails to introduce the students to the basics and the various laws associated with thermodynamics.

Elementary Mathematics

The course entails to educate students about the various basic concepts of mathematics that are elementary to the daily working life of a dairy technology personnel.

Market Milk  

The course introduces the students to the market of milk in India and several countries and the proper way to manufacture different kinds of milk.

Introductory Dairy Microbiology

The objective of the course is to introduce the partaking students to the complex microbiology of milk and teaches them the importance and the ways of hygienic milk production.

Chemistry of Milk  

The objective is to make the students aware about the definition and structure of milk, factors affecting composition of milk, its nomenclature and

classification of milk proteins.

Traditional Dairy Products  

The course aims to make the students aware about the status and significance of traditional milk products in India like khoa, chhana etc.

Condensed & Dried Milks  

The course discusses in detail the history, status and scope of condensed and dried milk in India and abroad, along with definition and legal standards of condensed milk,

sweetened condensed milk and evaporated milk.

Fat Rich Dairy Products  

The course entails to discuss the status of fat‐rich dairy products in India and abroad.

Refrigeration and Air Conditioning  

The course aims to educate the students about the basic refrigeration cycles and concepts required for the various kinds of milk.

Dairy Engineering  

The course entails to educate the students with the basic engineering concepts being made used in the various dairy manufacturing processes.

Cheese Technology 

The objective of the course is to educate the individual about the origin and history of development of cheese manufacture, status and scope in India and

Abroad along with definition, standards and classification and manufacture of different kinds of cheese.

Ice‐Cream & Frozen Deserts  

The course entails to make the students aware about the history, development and status of the ice-cream industry along with the various processes involved in making, freezing and treatment of ice-creams.

Ques. Which is better for food technology TNAU or TANUVAS?

Ans. Both TNAU and TANUVAS are relatively similar institutions because they are state-run universities. There is no major difference between the two universities in terms of their infrastructure and faculty members. However, when compared on higher levels, then TNAU can be considered slightly better than TANUVAS, regardless of their resemblance in academic profiles.  Categories Food Technology at TNAU Course Fee 4.64 lakhs Course Duration 4 years Average CTC 10-12 LPA Recruiting Companies Cadbury, ITC, Yara, Zifo Technologies, etc. Having said that, it is always a better idea to try for other institutes like CFTRI, IIFPT, or NIFTEM for receiving better exposure, alongside a greater knowledge base. Read more

Ques. Which college is better for food technology, Tanuvas or Kongu Engineering College, Erode?

Ans. Kongu Engineering College is better than TANUVAS for Food Technology. It is the best in terms of experience, faculty, lab facilities, and environment, among other things. TANUVAS is great for animal research but not for food technology. Kongu Engineering College has many labs with high-quality equipment, placements with good professors, and many facilities to meet your needs. It is a pretty good choice if you are interested in chemistry and biology.  The curriculum is very unique and industry-oriented since the food industry sees a growth of about 15-18% every year.  Every year good companies visit there and recruit students. Companies such as Nestle, ITC, PepsiCo, Dabur, etc.  There is an advantage since it's new the research projects are just starting and there are more funds and a well-backed faculty department and administration.  NIFTEM is a place where you can express yourself through your unique ideas. There are lots of chances by doing some research work on the subject you are interested in. NIFTEM is regarded as one of the best institutes regarding placements for food tech and management students. Ans. No, as per the recent guidelines, there is no quota as such. Instead, there was a discrete program named PGN-ABM until only the 2015-17 batch. However, it has now altered to FABM (commonly known as, Food and Agri-business Management), which also is elaborated as the two-year full time residential programme that covers allied sectors like food procession, commodities, etc, found since the next batch. Even though the eligibility criteria is not disclosed yet, the name suggests clearly that students with a Food and Technology degree will be considered. So, in that case, there is an upside to this, with almost no worries concerning the quota for a student having a BTech degree in food technology to apply for the IIM, Ahmedabad.
