B.Tech. Electronics Engineering: What is it About?

An Electronic Engineer learns to design, develop and maintain the electronic circuits, devices and computer control systems. Along with practical knowledge B. For taking admission in B. B.Tech. Electronics Engineering: Admission Process

Admissions are generally done through any Entrance Tests conducted at national or state level. However, there are direct admissions also offered by various universities. Following are some top entrance exams on basis of which candidates can get admission in B.Tech Electronics Engineering-

  • JEE Main- It is the most sought after entrance exam for engineering admission. CBSE conducts this exam for admission in NITs, IIITs, and several other government institutes. JEE Main is conducted in April in online and offline mode. JEE Main is also the first step to take JEE Advanced for taking admission in IITs
  • JEE Advanced- It is conducted by IITs, for admissions in their undergraduate courses. It is taken only after qualifying JEE Main. JEE advanced is conducted in May.

Ans. Kalyani University is a very popular institution and pursuing an engineering degree from this university has its own pros and cons. Some of my friends studied there and here are the things I got to know from them. Pros  This institution is owned and run by the government. The complete fees for your 4 years of graduation is less compared to other private colleges. The faculty of this college is very good and all other staff members such as lab assistant, office staff, canteen staff are very helpful.  The university also hires some external professors having years of industry experience to teach and guide the students.  This gets them accustomed to the corporate culture.  The total number of students in this department is less so you will always have the chance to interact with your professors. Cons One of the biggest demerits of this university is that it doesn't have a proper placement cell in its campus.  Securing a job offer is tough, and you have to take the initiative yourself. The infrastructure of this college is average. The computer lab, electronics lab, instrumentation lab don't have adequate facilities.  The campus is located in a remote area. Ques. Which is better, 'KJ Somaiya - Electronics engineering' OR 'Vivekanand - Electronics and Telecommunication engineering'?

Ans. Having known some people studying in these colleges, I can tell you that both colleges are really good in their own ways. But, you should consider the following before you make any decision: KJ Somaiya has slowly improved over the years and now is considered much better than Mumbai University (MU). Vivekanand is known to keep track of attendance which is not the case with KJ Somaiya. If you are considering doing Electronics, you should know that Electronics and Telecommunications has an upper edge. The exams at KJ Somaiya are tougher than MU. This is because MU repeats a lot of previous years’ questions. You will get a 5 day holiday in MU before a semester paper. At KJ, you will only get a day or two. Therefore, at KJ, your exams will be hectic. The semesters end pretty quickly at KJ as opposed to MU.  MU students only get one month’s leave after a semester ends. For KJ, this leave is for 2 months.  You can utilize this time to look for internships and other activities that will help strengthen your resume. Electronics has a few subjects like digital communication which might overlap with telecommunications. Ans. EE at IIT Dhanbad is unquestionably superior to NIT Calicut’s ECE. According to some of my friends studying at IIT Dhanbad, you should never lose the chance of studying at IIT Dhanbad.  So far as the branch is concerned, there is a minor difference.  ECE is more concerned with IT than EE.  But it doesn't matter if you're in a prestigious institution.  In reality, almost all branch students learn to code and apply to tech companies at IIT. You will have plenty of opportunities to learn whatever you want at the institution.  It is entirely up to you whether you want to work in core companies or IT companies after completing EE. Ans. There is nothing called instrumentation engineering. The students usually study the syllabus of the electronic branch that includes learning low-level languages along with the complete command of them.  There is a very high demand for highly skilled engineers who know the top programming languages like TopCoder, GitHub, and many more.  Learning these languages totally depends upon the person that they can do without going to college. Becoming an electronics engineer totally depends upon the person, and their effort, not the college.  Some of the students follow the GATE syllabus to enter into the government sectors.  Some get recruitment in top private companies by learning these programming languages. The college can help you out only by giving a proper study environment that can promote your overall development.  If you wish to join the private sector, then only the placement facility provided by the college is useful to you. Fee Structure And Facilities :

It is a bit expensive considering the campus and student services offered. But according to the teaching programs, it is feasible also, because of the government's different policies, students can afford the courses offered here in general. It is a quality institute teaching wise.

College Events :

Various technical and non technical events by all the departments of general engineering and textile engineering throughout the year. Also at the end of the year, a traditional program consisting of dance, singing, face painting competition as well as fashion show in the event.

Campus Life :

Campus life is quite cool, gender ratio is 60:40. there are a lot of cultural groups who participate in different dance, drama and fashion show competitions in other universities. No racial or religious discrimination in the campus at sexual orientation is not a problem.

College Events :

Campus life was good. And I got chance many times to show my extracurricular skills in cultural events. There is a annual cultural event known as Abhiyanta Vasant. There is also a technical event called as Cynosure. In which all departments have their own technical event. University also organize university level sports event.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Course is very well designed by faculties of the department. This course contains very deep concepts with live examples. And the department have very good faculties considering their knowledge. Not so many faculties are highly qualified but their knowledge about subjects very deep.

Placement Experience :

Job opportunities through campus placements are not so much. Due to village area few companies visit for campus placements. And only 20-25% of the students get their job opportunity through campus placements. Alumni network is also not good for job referrals.

Course Curriculum Overview :

I enrolled myself into Electronics Engineering. 1st in the University is common for all streams. From 2nd year onwards we had semester patter. In our branch each semester has 5 theory subject and 3 practicals. We were following an old syllabus and also the pattern of our question paper remained same. The most challenging part was for those who have to re-attempt the previous year or semester's exam along with the current semester as the exams falls on consecutive days, which never got changed. Obviously we were made to face such challenges where in life or work ( corporate culture) every one needs to deliver on a daily basis irrespective of any situation. This later taught us how to start slow and contribute a little everyday to achieve your goal.

Admission :

I have got the admission on the basis on my CET score. Post which the allotment gets started throught the CAP rounds where you have to select 20 colleges in first round if you get the college which was listed in first 10 then it is mandatory to enroll in the college. I have got the admission in the third round where I have fill 45 colleges ( including the branch/stream). As my scores were low, I did not have any other choice to go for a different college. Once you see the name in the CAP list, you get a window of 10 days to pay the fees and get enrolled. I submitted the fees in July 2008 and 22nd August 2008 the curriculum started. We had to visit the administrative department of our college, show the list and pay the required fees.

IEEE Paper presentation Annual cultural festival Robotics Under IEEE forum, we used to organize many other events. There are many people who used to loved to be part of technical events and a segment of students which loved to be part of cultural festival. It used to be organize in January because we have enough time for our next semester exams

The laboratories are well-equipped and working in a lab brings in a lot of practical knowledge about the subject. The lab assistants and staffs are very supportive to learn in labs. Also, the library facilty is very good too. Many books are available for students and staff to get benefitted from.

We have well-equipped laboratory and the practical sessions we do there are very knowledgable. Exams that are conducted has never been pressurizing for any of us. Both theory and practical examinations have always created us a healthy competitive atmosphere to expand our knowledge.
