Objective of industrial engineering is to provide understanding of design, research & development section, manufacturing, operations and services. B. Tech Industrial Engineering: Eligibility

A candidate must have passed 10+2 exam with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics (PCM) as main subjects for taking admission in the B. Tech, Industrial Engineering course. Students have to score minimum 50% marks (PCM) in 10+2 class to take admission in most of the institutes. Students who have done diploma in Industrial Engineering after 10th, may get admission directly in the second year of B. Tech course.

B. Tech Industrial Engineering: Admission Process

For taking admission in the B. Tech, Industrial Engineering students have to pass the entrance exams conducted by the various universities. Students after clearing the entrance exams go through the process of counseling conducted by the universities, where according to the score in the entrance students will get the admission in the respective fields. Some of the universities gives direct admissions to the students on the merit basis.

Entrance Exams

In the entrance exam of B. Tech, questions will be asked from the subjects of physics, chemistry & math's. There will be three sections in the exam & each section will consists of 30 questions. Total 90 no. of questions will be there in the exam. Each question is of 4 marks for each correct answer. Duration of the test will be of three hours. For the admissions in the B. Tech various national level & state level tests are conducted in the country. Some of the private Institutes like SRM University, BITS Pilani, VIT University etc. conduct their tests for taking admission in their institutes. Application forms of most of the entrance exams will be available in the month of December & will be submitted in the month of January.

Selection Process For B.Tech Industrial Engineering

Selection will be made on the basis of class XII, class XI & class X marks, ranking in the JEE or Equivalent, performance in academic and extracurricular activities, essay and performance in personal interview. Applicants with minimum percentage of 70% aggregate marks in physics, Chemistry and mathematics in class XII and a JEE score will be eligible for admission to the B. Tech programme.

Direct Admission

Some of the engineering institutes offer direct admission on the basis of the merit in the 10+2 exams or equivalent exams. Some private colleges also offer direct admission in the B. Tech on the management seats. Fees structure of management quota seats are higher than the normal admissions. Thapar Inst of Engineering & Technology, Patiala, BITS Pilani, Pilani, Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore, SSN College of Engineering, Chennai are some of the colleges are some of the colleges which give direct admission in bachelor of technology, industrial engineering course.

Lateral Entry

Various colleges in India offer direct admission in second year to the students who applied in the B. Tech after completion of their diploma course. Some colleges take entrance exam for the diploma holder students for  their admission directly in the second year of the B. Tech course. Such lateral entry for the diploma holders students will be in the third semester. Students with minimum 60% marks (eligibility criteria will be different for different institutes) in the diploma are eligible to take admissions in the B. Tech course. Ans. After doing some research online, I would suggest not to go for IEM at Ramaiah, until and unless you are extremely interested in studying that particular subject. Since it will not pay you anything and you will eventually wind up in the same category of mass placement at one of the service-based companies.  Double-check the topics you will be studying. EEE is usually less exposed than IEM, yet EEE is regarded as the most complex branch to be studied.  The majority of EEE / ECE / other branches receive job offers from Infosys, HCL, Accenture, or Tech Mahindra. Ans. The choice depends on the branch of your interest. If you are interested in pursuing Computer Science Engineering, IIT Ropar is the best choice. If you are unsure of your choice, IIT Delhi is the best option. Ans. I know a little bit about ISI Kolkata since I have a few friends from the institute. Here is what you should know about the internships between semesters.  The course curriculum specifies that in the summer after completing your first year of M.Tech, you have to do an internship either in the industry or academia. You will have 3 options.  Industry: Many companies that visit the Campus for placements of 2nd-year students also select interns for the same. Some of such companies are Samsung Research Labs, Google, General Electric, Reliance, Flipkart, De Shaw, JP Morgan Chase, etc. The average stipend offered last year was 65,000 rupees/month. Some companies offer more than 1 lakh/month. One of my friends interned at Samsung Research Labs. Academia: As per ISI guidelines, you need to pursue an internship at a different academic Institute or industry. A friend of mine went to NUS Singapore, while two others went to a university in Germany. You can also apply to other institutes in Japan, USA, and Europe. People also go to IITs, CMI, and other Tier-1 Institutes of India. Within ISI: If for some reason you could not get an internship in the above-mentioned ways, you can approach any of the 250+ faculty members across all 5 ISI‘s and can ask to work with them in their labs. You will have internships at the end of the first year. In the second year, you will have placements, dissertation, academics. So, the only time left to do an additional internship is the winter break after the first sem. Unless you are extremely enthusiastic, I will suggest that you take a break during this period. Because after the break you will be swamped with coursework for 1.5 years.Read more

Ques. Which is better, production engineering at NIT Agartala or ECE at NIT Mizoram?

Ans. Your decision completely depends on your priority as to what is the most important to you, the branch or the college. Being a graduate from NIT Agartala, I would suggest you go for NIT Agartala rather than NIT Mizoram. If college is the most important to you then you should go for NIT Agartala. The infrastructure is far better than most of the NITs. You may have to face some trouble regarding the faculties as they are not up to the mark. If the branch is your priority go for ECE, however, Production Engineering also has grown as a department. You can make your careers in Supply Change, Quality Management, and Control, etc. Other than this, your choice should depend upon the location. Give preference to the one that's closer to your home. Both the colleges are tier 3 Indian engineering colleges and the graduates have been working in companies with a package of 3 to 4 lakhs per annum. Categories Production Engineering at NIT Agartala ECE at NIT Mizoram Course Fee 6.31 lakh 5.43 lakh Highest CTC 8-10 LPA 6-7 LPA Average CTC 5.5 LPA 3.5 - 4 LPA Recruiting Companies L&T, NTPC, JP Morgan, Reliance, etc. Bharat Electronics Limited, Tech Mahindra, IBM, HP, etc. Both branches are equally good in their own ways. Ques. Which is a better choice among industrial systems engineering at IIT Kharagpur and electrical engineering at IIT Bhubaneswar?

Ans. IIT Bhubaneshwar has come into existence recently and it is a new and young institute. It needs to develop more to grow and attain the reputation like other well stable institutes. It has to improve in terms of infrastructure, faculty, and opportunities. A few points on IIT Kharagpur before taking a decision: IIT Kharagpur is a well stable and maintained institute and has everything that you wish in an institute. It has the best faculty, reputation, and infrastructure. You can choose IIT Kharagpur if you want to spend your college years on a good campus with all the facilities as it is heaven for four years. If you are not getting the branch of your interest, there is an option to change the branch. But you must attain a higher GPA in your first semester, however, it is not an assured way and is risky. Compared with Industrial System Engineering at IIT Kharagpur, EE at IIT Bhubaneshwar would be a better option as the academics and job opportunities are better. You will receive great placement offers in IIT Bhubaneshwar also. It ends up at the branch you are interested in and then the institute. Both these branches are like North and south.Read more
