Ques. Which one would be better: production in Jadavpur university, power in Jadavpur university, mechanical in Jalpaiguri, or government engineering or mechanical in Kalyani govt. engineering?

● Top Answer By Prerona Datta on 22 Oct 21

Ans. Choose the course that interests you, college is a secondary thing. Here are some of the facts that may help you in choosing the right branch for you. If you want to work in PSUs or Govt. sectors, it’s better to not choose Production Engineering as there are fewer recruiters. Jadavpur is the best college you can get through WBJEE. If you choose Production or Power in JU, you will have good on-campus job opportunities. Production Engineering is a branch of Mechanical Engineering itself. The syllabus will be more or less the same.  Mechanical at Kalyani University will be slightly better than Jalpaiguri. You may not get lucrative job packages at on-campus placement from Kalyani University but in the long run, you will have a much better hold with your Mechanical degree. You can expect well-paid jobs in the future.  Your future will depend on the branch you are choosing so choose according to your interest. All these Universities will offer you enough opportunities and resources to prosper. It’s up to you to use that well. Read more

Ques. How is electrical engineering at UIT Burdwan University?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 28 Sept 21

Ans. Overall, UIT Burdwan University is not that great. However, if you are only considering the electrical engineering department of the institute, then it is quite good. The faculties are extremely supportive and helpful towards students. They are well-experienced. But don’t expect to score easily. You will have to study hard to score good marks in examinations.  The institute offers good lab amenities as well. However, unlike many other universities, UIT Burdwan University does not quite provide the best technical or practical knowledge. It is up to you to make the most of your time at the institute. Read more

Ans. According to some of my friends studying there, the institute has managed to show good placement records every year. Students often receive Pre-placement offers by top companies in their 6th semester after they had training or internship with them. Placement highlights: A total of 264 recruiting companies visited the campus for placements. On average, about 90% of B.Tech students were placed. The highest CTC offered in B.Tech at Thapar was INR 25 LPA and the average CTC was between INR 6-8 LPA. The top recruiting firms for Electrical engineering are Maruti, Deloitte, Exl Analytics, Tata Motors, Mu Sigma, Honda, Schneider Electric, Asian paints, Reliance, Wipro, Sapient, etc. The internship opportunities are also good and these turn into full-time offers sometimes.  One girl got an internship at Reliance which turned into a full-time job at CTC 16 LPA. The top mass recruiters were Infosys and TCS. They offer a salary package of 3-3.5 LPA. The students of B.Tech score the highest number of placements every year at Thapar University. The institute has even managed to get more than 90% of students placed in the last 6 years. You should make sure to contact a currently enrolled student and know the scenarios.Read more

Faculty :

The faculties were not so good, barring a few,who were very knowledgeable and helpful to studnts. some of the faculties are Mr.anupam dey (electrical), dr.satarupa satpathy (chemistry), mr.panchanan Chatterjee (late) were some of the brilliant noteworthy teachers..other were just average or below average. I was not quite satisfied with the quality of faculty's.on a scale of 10, i would like to rate 5.

Exam Structure :

Exam structure consists of theory and practical exams for each semester, conducted by WBUT (NOW KNOWN AS MAKAUT), the semesters are generally two , every year. Weightage to attendance, assignments submission, clas performance, extracurriculars are considered for assessing a students performance in each semester.. apart from this, each semester also has two mandatory mid-semester exams.

Admission :

I appeared WBJEE in 2014. i scored a merit rank of 4273, then i applied for counselling through the wbjee counselling process, and chose this college. Based on my rank, i got this collge in 3rd round of counselling..and then i was guided by wbjee, how to complete the admission process

Placement Experience :

Approx 100% placement. Only good thing of this institute is placement. There is no active placement cell still companies come for recruitment. Only reason is that in India not much specialised Power Engineers are available. some of the companies are Reliance Power, Tata Power, Adhunik Power & Natural Resources, Vedanta, Essar Power, Bhushan Steel, Thermax, Philips Carbon Black Limited etc.

Course Curriculum Overview :

There is no focus on research. Course curriculum has become outdated as now a days govt is focusing on renewable energy resources whereas whole syllabus of Power Engineering focuses on Thermal Power. In Power Engineering one has to study almost full mechanical and electrical engineering. Because of this syllabus becomes very vast as compared to other stream of engineering.

Admission :

notification was released during December-January. I appeared in AIEEE. Got the result then attended the counselling conducted by WB JEE board for AIEEE candidates. Nowadays procedure has changed. One has to appear in WB JEE or JEE Main. Notification comes in December or January online mode only. Then appear in the exam and have to get good rank.

Faculty :

Faculty is one of the pillars behind the robust structure of our institute and the performance delivered by the students. Faculty members are overwhelmingly cooperative and because of their support and cooperation that such a healthy and competitive environment of education and co-curricular activities has sustained in the campus for so long. Most of the faculty members hold the post of associate professor and above and they are immensely knowledgeable and honest towards their service. They take special interest in various projects which are worked on by the students and guide them with full will.

Exam Structure :

We have 8 semesters during the 4 years of study at NPTI.We have two sessionals comprising of 10 marks each before the final semester paper which comprises of 75 marks. 5 marks are allotted as per the attendence of the respective student. Usually we have 10 subjects including theory papers and practicals in each semester. Some semesters have 11 or 12 papers. The lab sessions are prettu enjoyable and the routine gets little hectic when the exams approach.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course curriculum is pretty impressive as it covers all the prerequisites for starting a career in some firm as well as for research. It covers all the important subjects from the research point of view like, control systems, smart grid and embedded systems, Power Systems, Instrumentation, Digital and Analog Electronics etc. which facilitate the path for research or professional career as desired by the student.
