B.Tech in Space Technology is a four year graduate course consisting of eight semesters. Out of eight semesters, seven semesters are dedicated to theoretical subjects and the last semester includes project work. 

After completing this course, the candidates can go for the master course in the Space Engineering from India as well as abroad and work in the field of research. Space engineering students can get employed in various areas like National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), Universities, ISRO (Indian Space Research Organization), DRDO (Defense Research and Development Organization). Space engineers can become a Research Scientist, Defence Industry Scientist, Research Associates, Scientific Officer, Environmental Scientist and Science Data Analyst.  

The tuition fee varies from INR 500,000 to 700,000 per annum depending on the institute. The entry level salary of a Space Engineering graduate ranges from INR 300,000 to 500,000 per annum.

What is B.Tech Space Technology about?

Space Technology covers the topics of cosmology, stellar science, astrophysics, planetary science, astronomy, to name a few. Space Technology is studying about what is beyond the Earth and related to the objects entering the earth from the space.

The objective of this course is learning about the satellite navigation system and taking care of the remote areas of a planet which we cannot see from earth. It is used for measurement of the ozone layer which protects the earth from the ultra violet rays of the sun. Space engineers with the space technology can detect that which part of the ozone layer is depleting.

Eligibility Criteria for B.Tech Space Technology

Students of 10+2 pass or equivalent with minimum 60% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics are eligible to take admission in this course. The rules are relaxed for students belonging to SC/ST/OBC categories. The criteria may vary across different colleges and universities.

Admission Process for B.Tech Space Technology

Students have to qualify the JEE Main to appear in the JEE advanced to enroll in this course in the IITs. After this exam, a merit list is generated and students have to go through the process of counselling. After getting rank in the JEE advanced exam, a merit list will be prepared and students have to attend the counseling session. Some of the reputed universities conduct their own test and students have to pass their entrance exam to take admission in the B.Tech Space Technology in these universities.

Entrance Exams

The top exams are JEE Main and JEE Advanced. In the entrance exam, questions will be asked from the subjects of Physics, Chemistry & Maths. Duration of the test is three hours.  There will be three sections in the exam & each section will consist of 30 questions. Total number of questions is 90. You get 4 marks for each correct answer. For the admissions, various national level & state level tests are conducted in the country.

Some of the private institutes like SRM University, BITS Ranchi etc. conduct their tests. Application forms of most of the entrance exams are available in the month of May and shall be submitted in the month of June.

Course Structure of B.Tech Space Technology

It is a four year B.tech course. There are a total of eight semesters. Each academic year has 2 semesters. The scheme of assessment of this course consists of marks in theory and practical exams. Exams are conducted twice a year.
