Bachelor of Technology (B.Tech) in Sugar & Alcohol Technology is a 4-year undergraduate engineering course, minimum eligibility for which is an intermediate degree (10+2) with Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry or any other technical subject (Computer/ Biotechnology/ Biology) with 45-50% marks. The objective of the Sugar Technology is to impart education on sugar technology and to extend scientific guidance to sugar mills for the overall improvement of the technical performance. The course of Sugar & Alcohol Technology is divided into two sub sections of Sugar Technology and Alcohol Technology. The targeted areas are controlling sugar losses in manufacturing process, improvement in the quality of the final product at reduced cost. The section of Alcohol Technology aims to help distillery industry in their efforts to achieve the economic development (with minimum use of resources and energy input) by assisting them in building their capacity and capability through trained manpower and by way of advancement, development and adoption of better technology in its area of focus viz. fermentation, distillation & integrated effluent treatment systems.

Eligibility Criteria for B.Tech in Sugar & Alcohol Technology

For availing admission in a Bachelor’s program for Sugar & Alcohol Technology, the candidate must have successfully passed the higher secondary certificate (10+2) examination or its equivalent with subjects Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry or any other technical subjects such as Biology, Computer Science, etc. Candidates need to score a minimum of 50% marks in aggregate in three major subjects taken together. SC/ST and other reserved categories have an advantage of 5% relaxation in total marks. English can also be one of the mandatory subjects in the qualifying examination, however, this can vary from university to university.

  • Maharashtra Common Entrance Test (MH CET)MH CET is a common entrance test conducted in Maharashtra for providing undergraduate and postgraduate admissions in engineering & technology and pharmacy courses offered by various government and private colleges of Maharashtra state. Online application forms are available in February and examination is held in May first week. The basic eligibility for undergraduate courses is pass in 10+2 (HSC). The exam pattern is MCQ based. Industrial training

Heritage Institute of Technology (HIT) is a very popular engineering institute and if you are interested in pursuing Chemical engineering then you should definitely take admission in this college.  The competition is much less for chemical engineering students and a lot of facilities are available for them. As per his experience, CGPA isn’t required for the process of getting a good job.  He scored 9 CGPA and many of his friends scored less than him yet they were successfully placed in prominent companies. In addition, LNCT is the only engineering college in Bhopal that offers Chemical Engineering among the 65 private engineering institutes. This institution provides appropriate guidance as well as practical analysis. But Chemical Engineering at the institute does not enjoy the same exposure as branches like CSE or IT. Ans. Chemical Engineering at Haldia Institute of Technology used to be one of the best courses at the institute. But with years the condition of this branch has gotten worse. The old faculty members have retired. The current faculty base is not that great.  I have a few friends from the institute and according to them, if you are keen on exploring the field of chemistry then Haldia would not be one of your best choice institutes. But the placements here are decent. In the 2020 placements, the highest and average CTC offered was 3.5 LPA and 24 LPA. Read more

Ans. Yes, chemical engineering at JNTU is good. If you are interested in chemical engineering, then it's the best place to pursue it.  Infrastructure: The Chemical Engineering branch started at the institute only a few years ago. It does not even have a specific departmental block. It shares the block of the Metallurgical department. CE also doesn't have their own labs. Students go to other departments to do their lab work.  Placements: The first batch of Chemical Engineering graduated in 2018 and it had good core placements. Companies like Vedanta, ITC recruit Chemical Engineering students. In recent years the average CTC offered at the institute is 9 LPA.  I will advise you to only opt for Chemical Engineering if you are interested. If a student needs only the tag and brand of JNTU then choosing a chemical branch will not be a good idea. Read more
