Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum contains tough and very unique. During 1st year all the subjects will be common for all the technology students and chemical engineering. In the second year also except 1 special subject of Paint technology, all remains the same. Most of the paint technology and surface coating subjects are covered during the final year (4th) of B.Tech. The learning methodology is purely based on practical experiments in chemical engineering and paint technology. During 4 years of my journey of B. Tech Surface coating technology, we have learned all of the subjects of chemical engineering in detail (except Transport Phenomenon and Mass Transfer - II). Along with chemical engineering 8 more subjects are compulsory for every technology. All 8 subjects will teach you practical and theoretical about paint technology right from pigment, resin, solvents and additives to the final paint preparation application, properties, testing, etc. The course contains one full-time internship of 2 months.

Internships Opportunities:

The paint manufacturers such as Asian paints, Berger paints, Nerolac paints, and Axalta coatings offer roles in research & development and manufacturing. Also, vehicle manufacturers such as Tata motors, Mahindra vehicles manufacturers, FIAT, etc in paint shops and given a project on improvement online. The internship will teach more practical & industrial knowledge to the candidate. Manufacturing trainees will learn the manufacturing process of the paint, departmental works for all the departments and basic knowledge about the factory. Paint shop trainees will learn the different paint application methods in the paint shops, application processes, detailed knowledge of paint-shop processes, etc. Trainees will actually see the robotic & manual paintings. Whereas R&D trainees will be given training over paint formulation concepts such as PHR ratio, P: B ratio, shade matching, knowledge of colour values, grinding, pilot batches, etc. Most of the trainees do not get a stipend here.

Ques. What is the current placement scenario for metallurgy and materials engineering at NIT Trichy?

● Top Answer By Suresh Mishra on 30 Aug 21

Ans. One of my friends graduated from NIT Trichy and here are some facts about the institute I got to know from her. As you have not mentioned any specifications, let me just describe the placement scenario of Metallurgy at NIT Trichy. The placements generally vary from year to year.  Out of a batch of around 60 students, people looking for placements every year is around 40. The rest of the people either go for higher studies or have some other plans.  Most of the people get into material science-related fields at very good universities. Out of the 40 students, around 30 usually get placed.  Companies that usually open for metallurgy graduates include, Core Metal (steel/ aluminium), Automobile, Analytics, Software and others. There are a few companies that are regular visitors. The rest depends on the market and your training placement coordinator. Placements for metallurgy students are lesser than the other departments. Categories Metallurgy and Materials Engineering at NIT Trichy Course Fee 5.65 lakh Highest CTC 22 LPA Average CTC 10-12 LPA Recruiting Companies BPCL, L&T, Tata Steel, Reliance, etc. So, you need to act upon those selected shots you get. You'll have many chances throughout the year. You will also get a lot of guidance from immediate seniors.Read more

Ques. How is metallurgical and materials engineering at IIT Ropar?

● Top Answer By Jolly Roy Chatterjee on 07 Sept 21

Ans. Metallurgical and Materials Engineering Department at IIT Ropar offers a B.Tech program, alongside a Ph.D. program. Since the establishment of the branch, it has involved a wide range of study areas, in India as well as other foreign countries. Mainly, it has shown a great scope of exposure relentlessly in these few years. Sir P.K Raina, considered one of the main heads of the institute, is a Ph.D. holder from IIT Kanpur and knows how to incentivize new talents. At present, he is known as the Students Associate Dean of IIT Ropar.  In terms of infrastructure, there is a separate building in the permanent campus, usually called the Satish Dhawan for SMMEE. There is a provision of only one lab located in the Transit campus - 1 of XRD. Other similar labs are located elsewhere, RMML (Ropar Machines of Materials Laboratory ) Material Testing Lab In case you are about to pursue your higher studies, then going for IIT Ropar is not at all a bad elective. Read more

Ques. How is NIT Surathkal metallurgy?

● Top Answer By Debarati Nag on 13 Apr 21

Ans. Metallurgy at NIT Surathkal is a very good branch as there is a rising requirement of materials science and engineering and their number of students taking admission in this branch is comparatively less than other branches like Civil, Mechanical or Electrical so you can expect less competition in this field. Categories Metallurgy at NIT Surathkal Course Fee 1.85 lakh Placement Percentage 54% Average CTC 7 LPA The course is really good and it gives a strong base to the students for their higher studies which is quite important in this field. The department is now called Metallurgical and Materials Engineering and it focuses more on materials engineering. The professors here are very good at their job and are enthusiastic about teaching. They teach very well and create an interest among the students.  The facilities are not that great but are good enough as an engineering college. There is one SEM and XRD, metallurgy lab, materials testing lab, and a good heat treatment lab. The placement records are quite good too and it exposes you to various companies so you can secure a job in both core and non-core companies.Read more

Ques. Should I go for civil engineering or metallurgy and material science engineering in NIT Trichy?

● Top Answer By Sreeja Prasad on 31 Aug 21

Ans. I would suggest you go for metallurgy if you plan to do a job right after completing your degree. Metallurgy has more job opportunities to offer. With Metallurgy, you can easily learn coding and go for tech companies. NIT Trichy has a great coding culture, so picking up coding skills will not be difficult.  If you plan to prepare for civil services or any other government job, I would suggest you go for civil engineering. When compared to metallurgy, there are fewer job opportunities in the civil department. If you plan on doing an MBA after having done your engineering, you can opt for either of them because then it does not matter anyway.Read more
