Ques. Is EFLU, Hyderabad good for pursuing an M.A. in English, if one has gotten a degree in English from DU? What is its ranking among the top universities for humanities?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 15 Jul 21

Ans. EFLU is an exclusive university for English. There are 29 departments, out of which 20 are in English. With so many micro-specialties, pursuing an MA in English from EFLU is a great option. The university gives a lot of freedom in choosing subjects in post-graduation. Post-graduation applicants get a pool of subjects to choose from in their degree at EFLU. EFLU conducts only one entrance test for admission in all streams. If you clear the entrance test you will get the chance to choose whichever subject you want to pursue. You can either choose all subjects from one department only or select subjects from several departments if you want to have a mixed degree. Even, you are allowed to change subjects till two weeks of the course. The linguistic department of EFLU is very famous all over India, because of its quality of education. It has a world-class set of faculties in the department, along with an extensive library for helping students in their coursework. The literature department of EFLU is not as good as other central universities in India. Although there are excellent professors here too, the scope for students in literature is limited. Considering the quality of the linguistics department in EFLU, it is a great option for English graduates. Because of the cafeteria system of choosing subjects, there is a lot of diversity in the department.Read more

Ques. Which one is better to do an MA in English, Chandigarh University or Amity University, Noida?

● Top Answer By Anil Tigga on 15 Apr 21

Ans. My friend is currently pursuing her Master’s in English at Chandigarh University. It is better because it provides more choices and has an education system that is well-equipped for students who want to do major in English. The English Department has excelled in a wide variety of activities. There are various seminars arranged here every week. With media being so popular among students nowadays, literary quizzes are held once a month to keep students informed about current events based on literature. The teaching approach is very up-to-date and pays attention to each and every student in order to assist them in choosing the required specialization. Term papers, research papers, and dissertations are all part of this area, which helps students to gain interest in their future programs and presentations. It is particularly beneficial to students who are pursuing a Ph.D. The environment is very student-centric. You can easily share your views with faculty and students very conveniently. You will be provided with specialized courses to enhance your skills as per your interests. Considering all the above, MA in English is best offered by Chandigarh University.Read more

Campus Life :

Campus life is awesome. The gender ratio is a bit confusing. There are more girls than boys. But still it is awesome. There are no problems or issues regarding gender, ethinicity, race religion, politics or economic status. Extra curricular activities are often conducted. Arts, sports, Onam, christmas, union day, and various other prominent days are celebrated gracefully and teachers are also so supportive in cinducting such programmes besides our studies. They are well aware that a college is a space not only for developing education, but also for enhancing various other skills.

College Events :

Theree are union celebrations, onam, christmas, arts, sports and other management and department wise celebrations conducted each year. Also there is PG day for the seniormost students of the college. College annual day is also conducted during the final period of the academic year. All these programmes paves the way for a relief from studies for ghe students.

Admission :

Literature is a tension-free course. And moreover we are fre to express, imagine and interpret our views on anything and everything. Through merit list I got admission. Date was 24th of July 2018. I went ther with my parents, took admission, submitted my SSLC, 12th and degree certificates. The HOD told me that the class would be commencing on coming week.

Placement Experience :

No, as the course which I have opted come under Arts group and that too a language group, there are no such internships. There are several job oppurtunities awaiting us. After the masters degree, we are able to enter as a college lecturer if we are qualified for it. Or we can work as a content writer for any reputed company. We can also be a translator if fluent in any foreign languages. In short, English degree is a 'safer' section in the field of education.

Alumni/Alumna :

The college has a brilliant group of alumni network. They are so helpful too. When I cracked the UGC NET exam for the first time, there was the merit day celebrations for honouring all the qualified students. And the chief guest was an IAS officer who surprisingly was an old student of our college. Also many of the faculties are members of the alumni association.

Faculty :

There are 10 faculties in the English department of our college including the head. Each of them are way too better when compared. Each of them have a thrust area, for example, if one of them is interested in the theories, then other will be well versed in poems, other one in novels and so on. All of them are NET aspirants and phd holders.

College Events :

Campus life was not so enjoyable. The authority has to be less strict. They should try not to burden the students with their religious measures. The students are forced and threatened in the name of religion. That should be strictly avoided. And the use of mobile phones should be allowed.

Campus Life :

Infrastructure is not upto date. Food service in the canteen not at all appreciable. The service of Library is average. The space in the campus is wide. The ambience is really soothing except for the trains and airplanes that passes by, its causing noise pollution.

Remarks :

No specific factors. As the college is far away from my home I thought of having a change by staying in the hostel. I didnt opt for any other colleges. The college which I had studied for my degree was so close to my home. But still I opted for this college.
