How to prepare for MS Civil Engineering entrance exams?

If your college includes an entrance test in the admission procedure, then you must be well prepared for it. So, here we are with some interesting preparation tips for you:

  • You must be completely familiar with the pattern of examination. Get to know the number of sections and the total number of questions that you have to answer.
  • Knowing the syllabus properly is also of primary importance. You need to download the syllabus from the official website of the university.
  • In most cases, you will be dealing with multiple-choice questions. If that is the case, then check whether there is negative marking or not.
  • Few entrance exams have a separate section for General Knowledge questions and current affairs. To ace that examination, you will have to be a regular newspaper reader. This will help to keep you updated at all times.
  • Another very good way to perform well is to appear for regular mock tests. This will make you accustomed to the type of questions and the examination patterns. Various educational institutes hold regular mock tests for the students.
  • Revision is also an integral part of preparation. You need to revise all the chapters and the important topics properly. Otherwise, even after preparing all the chapters, you might not get a really good rank.

How to get admission in a good MS Civil Engineering college?

To secure admission into a top-ranked MS Civil Engineering college, a number of factors come into play. Some of the following tips will be helpful in that regard.

  • You must have a sufficiently good percentage in your 10+2 as most colleges consider the 10+2 score in the eligibility criteria. A minimum of 50% marks is required by most of the colleges.
  • If your college holds an entrance test, then you must be prepared for it in advance.
  • You must also know the pattern of the examination and the type of questions that are frequently asked.
  • A few colleges conduct an interview prior to the admission procedure. The interview may either be a personal one or a technical one. So, you must be really well prepared for the interview as well.
  • You must take your undergraduate course really seriously. Until and unless you perform well in your Bachelor degree course, you will not be able to get admitted to a college of your choice.
  • Try to find out whether the college where you would like to get admitted to is sufficiently good or not. For that, you may have to take the advice of other people and also check out the ranking of that college. Get an idea about the placement scenario as well.

Ques. Which is better after graduate in civil: an M.Tech in transportation engineering from an IIT, or construction management from an IIT or NICMAR?

● Top Answer By Debdeep Majumder on 23 Sept 21

Ans. IIT Delhi and IIT Madras offer a Post-Graduation in Construction Technology and Management. To secure a seat at either of the institutes, you must obtain a good rank in the GATE examination. IIT Delhi gives more weightage to the technical aspects of the course, while NICMAR focuses more on the managerial aspects of Construction. The curriculum of the course is unmatched, yet the placements, at times, can be quite unanticipated.  Both the courses are quite equivalent to each other on various stages whatsoever. But, when the decision boils down to which among the both is better, then IIT Delhi might win the race. Now, the Transportation Engineering department from IITs is indeed a great course. The average package some of my seniors from this course secured was about INR 5 LPA. However, by all means, your placement partially also depends upon whether or not you are typically prepared for it. Read more

Ques. Is environmental geotechnology (civil) branch for M.Tech at NIT Calicut good enough?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 20 Aug 21

Ans. The M.Tech program of Environmental Geotechnology at NIT Calicut is an interdisciplinary branch. In the first semester, you will be taught about Geotechnological Engineering and in the second semester, you will learn about subjects that are in Environmental Engineering such as Groundwater Hydrology. All in all, this course is more towards the Geotechnical side than the Environmental side. You also have to undertake projects. Usually, most people opt for Geotechnical projects. Talking about the prospects of the future, L&T has been the only recruiters for some years now they recruited very few students pursuing postgraduate.  If you want to teach this course in the future, then pursuing it will be a good idea. It is definitely a good course but not the best. Join if you are interested in the course and not for the NIT tag. Read more

Ques. Which is better - doing M.Tech from IITs or going for NITIE Mumbai?

● Top Answer By Zakia Parween on 13 Aug 21

Ans. Having to know some people studying in both these colleges, I can say that they are equally good. You can opt for any one of them, their respective programs are also good. They are recognized as Centres of Excellence by MHRD, Govt of India. The choice mainly depends on the individual and their preferences. You should go for the one you are enthusiastic about. NITIE offers 3 courses, where the selection is through GATE scores. These include Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering, Project Management, and Manufacturing Management. These courses are a mixture of technical and business management. IITs offer M.Tech through GATE exam scores.  It involves core specialization and nothing about industrial management. So, the selection of the college and the course entirely depends on you. Go through them and then decide which will be a better option for your career.Read more
