Course Curriculum Overview:

I choose this course as there are lots of opportunities in south India mainly geology related. The faculties are good. Faculties are qualified with Ph.D. in various fields. Per semester one internal assessment and one final semester exam along with a practical exam. Its difficulty is moderate.

Internships Opportunities:

There are many internship opportunities . All you have to submit a application to chairperson or ask any faculty. But in most case you have to give your effort to find a internship. I went on a field project under GSI.

Ques. For MSc in Geology, which will be the better option? IIT Roorkee or ISM Dhanbad?

● Top Answer By Aditi Roy on 15 Apr 23

Ans. The choice of the Institute depends on where your interest lies. If you want to study core Geology, then 3-year MSc(tech) course is an excellent option. Both the institutes have below-average core placements with ISM fairing a tad bit better. Irrespective of the Institute and branch, to secure placements you need to be among the top rankers. My cousin had to choose between IIT Kharagpur‘s MSc in Geophysics and ISM’s MSc(tech) in Geology. She went for Geophysics eventually as he did not consider it wise to waste 3-years in a post-graduate program. In Fact, many of her batchmates dropped IIT Roorkee’s geology and went for Geophysics at IIT KGP. They did not find the teaching and quality of education at IIT Roorkee’s Geology branch as per IIT standards. I would suggest you go for ISM. But if you too share the same opinion as mine and don’t want to waste 3 years, go for Roorkee and prepare for GATE from the start.Read more

Ques. How is geology in IIT Bhubaneswar ?

● Top Answer By Priti Bansal on 13 Aug 20

Ans. Very few IITs in India offer Geology and all of them follow the same curriculum. The faculties at IIT Bhubaneswar is well qualified and experienced. Given below are a few advantages of choosing geology at IIT Bhubaneswar:- One of the parts of the IIT Bhubaneswar campus is close to Chilka lake, which is used for ocean and navel geology based courses, it is probably the only IIT in the country with such practical facilities available. Being one of the most culturally effervescent cities in the country and having a tropical savanna climate, Bhubaneswar is the most suitable for the field of climate and ocean research. There are a large number of elective courses of the geology department that are available in IIT Bhubaneswar with a few notable ones being Glacial Geoscience, Modelling and Stimulation, and many others. There are about 11 elective courses in MSc Geology each having 3 contact hours and 3 credits and divided between semesters(I and II) and (III and IV). The first two semesters have courses like environmental earth sciences and the 3rd and 4th semesters have courses like organic geochemistry.Read more
