M.Sc. Genetics: What is it all about?

Genetics covers the study of biology, heredity, the science of genes, and variation in living organisms. Genetics manage the atomic structure and function of genes, with gene behavior in the context of a cell as well as an organism (e.g. epigenetic and dominance), with examples of legacy from parent to posterity, and with gene appropriation, variety, and change in populations.

Genetics is a discipline of biology which scientifically studies genes, heredity, and variations in living organisms. Subjects commonly granted under this degree are Cell Biology, Biostatistics, Microbial Genetics & Technology, Population Genetics, Gene Development, Genome Organization, Biochemistry, DNA Technology etc.

Candidate must have specific skills such as numeracy, logical thinking, and computing; attention to current issues and problems and ethical debates. Candidates should have teamwork, project management abilities and organizational skills, and also ability to understand complex scientific information and data. Applicants must have problem-solving, business awareness, self-reliance and initiative and strong interpersonal skills. Candidate must have the ability to integrate genetic and clinical information and understand the uses, interpretation, limitations and significance of specialized laboratory and clinical techniques.

The study of Genetics has an extensive scope in the government and private sector. The M.Sc. genetics candidates may find jobs in the medical, agriculture sector and pharmaceutical industries and the research & development departments of government.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Definitely no. Bad coursework and bad good project work. Bad project guide. No campus placements even today. Waste of money and time. Because of reservations didn't get enough attention and the faculty were quite inexperienced. The syllabus was so bad that we couldn't learn the crux of the matter.

Admission :

Last option availability. Admission through entrance exam only. Management scheme quota. August 16th, 2012 commencement. Since it's a state government Institution the quality is not as good as a private or centralized government organizations. The degree is hardly recognized outside.

Fee Structure And Facilities :

Not worth it. Because the fee structure for lower category is 10 times lesser and no exam fees for those holding income certificates. Since my course was self - financed, it was not utilized for the project work. Hence couldn't find a research job as Genetics is research-based.
