Ques. Which university is better for an M.Sc in physics Burdwan, North Bengal, Visva Bharati University or Calcutta University?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 28 Sept 21

Ans. A senior I know from school completed M.Sc in physics and in his opinion, the University of Calcutta is the best place to pursue this course.  70% marks in B.Sc (Hons) in Physics is required to pursue this course at the University of Calcutta. In the University of Burdwan, the faculties of the department of Physics had individually obtained some major research projects from funding agencies like DST, ARDB, ISRO, UGC, BRNS, CSIR, etc. and all these projects were completed successfully.  For admission to the University of North Bengal, you need to have at least 50% in B.Sc (Physics). The department has active research groups in the fields of - Liquid Crystal; Relativity, Cosmology, and Astrophysics; High-energy Heavy-ion Interaction, and Cosmic-ray Physics.  In the case of Visva Bharati University, you need to score at least 50% marks in Physics Honors. The best option among the mentioned institutions is University of Calcutta. You will be offered great opportunities here.Read more

Ques. Between MSc physics at BITS Goa and MSc physics at BITS Hyderabad, which one should one choose?

● Top Answer By Admin on 10 Aug 21

Ans. You should definitely go with BITS Goa. The physics faculty at the institute is really good and no one can reiterate this enough. If you happen to take courses like Mechanics and OScil, you will realize this in the first year itself. Moreover, the college festival, Waves, is a major highlight. Many discussions regarding the best departments in the college have always had synchronous replies with physics being the major answer. The faculty members are well versed in the field and are dedicated individuals. But if you are still confused, you must know that the curriculum and syllabus are the same on all three campuses. Your degree will finally specify that you graduated from BITS Pilani. Read more

Campus Life :

Starting with the sports facilities, the campus has two fitness centers. One is in the north campus. It is equipped with four indoor badminton courts, table tennis tops, running and exercise machines and dumbells and barbells of varied weights. Also near this gymnasium there is a playground where students play football, cricket, volleyball or practice long jump. Another fitness center is near yoga center. Only female students are allowed there. Every hostel and school is equipped with fast wifi. There is a centralized library which is known by Indira Gandhi central Library. It is a huge library and it stores books of all departments. It is also equipped with wifi. There is also a reading room near the library which is open 24 hours. The lab facilities was also good and equipped with recent equipments.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The course curriculum is well updated according to CSIR NET exam. As I pursued MSc. in Physics more focus is given in solving problems. It is a very good way to make the students prepare for exams like CSIR NET, TIFR, GATE, JEST etc. The lab facilities was also good and equipped with recent equipments. For MSc. specialized topics students can choose from a range of subjects in the field they are interested. I can name many faculties who were really experienced like Dr. Ashok Chatterjee, Dr. Seshu bai Vummethala, Dr. Anantha Lakshmi Pochincherla etc. All the teachers are devoted towards their work.

College Events :

There are numerous cultural and sports activities that takes place in the campus. Like the annual ceremony Sukoon that takes place every year. I got admission in BSc physics Honours in college with my percentage in 10+2 class. I choose this course because I want to do specialisation in physics and BSc Physics Honours was the best for that. This institute is the best institute in our state this is only one central university in our state. And here we have good library and standard or international author's books. Environment around the university is very good. As a admission procedure they took merit in undergraduation level and entrance for MSc physics. And checked documents for the admission.

Remarks :

Central University of Himachal Pradesh Dharamshala is a good option for students who want to do specialisation in their course. Facilities provided by University is good and environment of university is also impressive. Only problem is with campus, campus is small as compare to other central universites. But enough for studying. This gives you better option, better life and better knowledge. All the books and teachers are standard. Teachers have lots of experience. All over this University is good option for you and your dreams.

Course Curriculum Overview :

The MSc Physics course is quite applied oriented, based on the Specializations available namely, Laser Physics, Electronics and Condensed Matter Physics. Scope for research in the Department is limited because not all students qualify for MSc Project, which depends on your GPA. The syllabus is at par with all National Level PhD exams and entrance tests, like CSIR-NET and GATE.

Admission :

Students are admitted through an All-India entrance test, is select cities all over the country. It is also highly regarded as the best Central University in South India after University of Hyderabad (HCU). The entrance test for UG (Integrated) courses is at the level of 12th Grade Secondary School, while PG entrance test is based on UG syllabus of the respective discipline.

Campus Life :

Gender Ratio is maintained among students, but not in the recruitment of faculty. A lot of bias exists which can be clearly visible if one visits the administration block for any matter. There is a Sexual Harassment Cell, which is always late in handling any student issues, and the administration is generally not protective of student rights.
