M.Tech. Advanced Manufacturing is a 2 year Post Graduate course in the domain of mechanical engineering with a specialization in advanced methods and processes of manufacturing. A minimum of 60% (relaxable for reserved category candidates) marks at UG level is the least which almost all the institutes desire from applying candidates as an eligibility criterion.

Some of the popular colleges/university offering the course are:

The fee for the course varies between INR 75,000 to INR 3, 50,000 in India. The variation in fee is based on the location and nature of university (that is government, state/private/deemed etc.).

M.Tech. Advanced Manufacturing admission is done based on Common Entrance Test (CET) based selection method as well as merit-based selection criteria that is the percentage of marks obtained at Under Graduate (UG) level. Most of the colleges who provide admissions through CET mechanism rely on the score of National level common entrance exams like GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering), while a select few opt for a separate entrance exam of their own (Like LPUNEST).

The course is designed to deliver the knowledge and skills of modern and advanced manufacturing techniques to M.Tech students so as to equip them with a holistic knowledge of the subject that will enable them to take on the practical applications of the learned concepts.

M.Tech in Advanced Manufacturing postgraduates have a wide range of job opportunities to choose from. One can choose to work with firms such as Automation, Production units, Indian railways, Ordinance factory etc. After completion of post graduation, one may pursue further studies in the said subject or may take up job opportunities associated. The average salary ranges between INR18,000 and 22,000 a month for a fresh pass out.

M.Tech. Advanced Manufacturing: What is it about?

Advanced Manufacturing as a sub-specialization of manufacturing engineering (under the ambit of mechanical engineering) is a specifically crafted branch of technology application which aims at optimizing the efficiency and effectiveness of manufacturing process.

From the days of Industrial revolution to the modern day production units the process of manufacturing has gone a drastic change. High wastage and low output have been replaced with minimal/zero wastage and maximum output. All this has happened due to the adoption of advanced manufacturing methods like automation and ICT in the production units.

To keep up the pace of technology adoption and manufacturing efficiency the need for advanced manufacturing as a separate academic program emerged out. A master’s level course in the domain aims at shaping that manpower that is required to keep up the pace of technology absorption. It grants a holistic domain view through practical based and gradual course structure to the PG level students so, as to let them grasp the concepts and skills with ease
