Master of Technology [M.Tech] (Aerospace Engineering)

Course Structure:

The course structure of M. Tech. Aerospace Engineering is designed such as to students with academic writing and research, concepts of aerodynamics and flight mechanics, aerodynamic design and advanced aerodynamic systems. The course also has various seminars and project works. The course also acquaints students with aircraft and spacecraft components in virtual environment through simulation labs and workshops.

Through this varied structure of the course, the students are well acquainted with real life and subject knowledge required in the career they opt for after the successful completion of the course.

Syllabus:

Missile Propulsion

Airborne Weapon System Effectiveness

Basic tools and methods used in Weaponeering; Weaponeering process of air launched weapons against ground targets; Introduction to Fire Control System.

The students are acquainted with weaponeering process and the elementary statistical methods along with definitions, classifications and applications to fire control systems.

Fire Control System

Introduction to fire control system; Theoretical aspects of the FCS problems and its solution; Functional elements of FCS; Design Philosophy; Designing for reliability, maintainability, ease of operation and safety.

A deep understanding of fire control systems and a brief description of aircraft and helicopter FCS.

Flight Instrumentation

Basic concepts of measurements; Signal processing; Data transmission; Tracking and data fusion.

The basic concepts of measurement systems of physical parameters and operational amplifiers and the like. Also, concepts related to signal transmission by analog and digital means.

Finite Element Methods

Prerequisites to FEM; 1-D structural problems: Analysis of axial Bar element, Analysis of Trusses, Analysis of Beams; 2-D stress analysis using CST: Scalar field problems, Dynamic considerations; 3-D problems: Tetrahedron element - Jacobian matrix - Stiffness matrix, CAD softwares and its applications.

The course deals with the basics of Finite Elemental Methods in engineering and the three dimensional approach to structural problems, stress analysis using CST and problems.

Computational Fluid Dynamics

Basic of Computational Fluid Dynamics. Governing Equations of fluid mechanics and heat transfer, physical boundary conditions, basic aspects of Discretization, Turbulence models: mixing length model, Two equation (k-epsilon) models – Grid generation. Practicals on CFD software (FLUENT) etc.

Aspects related to computational fluid dynamics in terms of governance of equations, the finite volume formulations and the numerical methods for the Navier-Stokes equation.

Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Weapons

Nuclear Science, Nuclear weapons, Chemical & Biological Weapons.

The learning of structure of the nucleus, mass defect and nuclear reactions along with the aspects of principles and effects of nuclear weapons and different chemical warfare agents.
