The curriculum of this course incorporates the fundamentals of electronics along with applications of communications to make a student through with the knowledge and skills to make a electric circuit of a communications system. It makes the students analytical and opens the broad areas of employment from various industries.

The curriculum includes dissertation, projects, elective exams, assignments during M.Tech. in Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering course. It will enhance their skills, way of looking at problems and finally will give them a practical approach to real life scenarios.

Each semester consists of some core subjects and some electives but the general subjects that are prescribed by most of the universities are-

This subject teaches us the fundamentals of digital communication and the recent developments in it.

Wireless Communication

This subject provides description of wireless mobile communication, and students can know about different channels in a wireless network

Digital Systems Design

Introduction to VHDL, analysis of clocked sequential networks, programmable LSI techniques

Linear Systems Theory

Power Electronics

Review of line commutated converters, inverters, voltage control, current source inverters, phase controllers

This subject provides an insight to power electronics in a detailed and profound way and also uses of its applications. It tells about how the inverters are made, different sources and modification of power circuits.

Spectral Analysis of Signals

Power spectral density, PSD estimation, Parametric method for rational spectra, folter bank methods, periodogram properties.

This subject deals with introduction to spectral analysis and different methods for spectral analysis.

 Secure Communications

rings and fields, basic encryption techniques, elliptic curves, concept of cryptanalytic, Euclidean domains

This subject provides basic knowledge of secure communications and building up of mathematics of secure communications.

Scheme of Assessment

Colleges evaluate the students in an effective manner by using two methods of Internal Assessment and External Assessment. Internal assessment includes the class tests, assignments, and projects, practical etc. And the external examinations include the main written test students have to take each semester to show their conceptual knowledge and applications. Internal assessment generally forms 25-35% of the total marks and the rest lays on external exams.

Ques. How is an MTech in communication engineering at NIT Trichy?

Ans. NIT Trichy has great placements for branches like CSE and ECE. Most of the recruiting companies give preference to B.Tech students rather than M.Tech. But as far as Communications Engineering is concerned, you will be allowed to appear for placement drives held by semiconductor companies with B.Tech students.  There are quite a few companies that prefer Communications students over VLSI. Many students end up being placed in dream semiconductor companies. Out of say, 35 students, only 1 or 2 are not placed. The placements are definitely improving over the years. It is advisable to have basic coding knowledge at least along with your core subject. That way, you will definitely be able to do well.Read more

MTech in ECE is a 2 year full time course involving researching, designing, developing and testing of electrical equipment. Ans. NIT Surathkal is ranked 21st in the engineering category by NIRF ranking 2019. It is one of the oldest and pioneer technical institutes in India. The institute offers an excellent placement record of 92-95% for the undergraduates every year.  Placement Highlights: NIT Surathkal witnessed 80% placements in MTech. Around 286 companies visited the campus in 2019. The placement report for the MTech witnessed decent growth in the highest and average package last year.  Around nine companies offered the on-job role to the MTech students.  The table given below shows a brief overview of the institute:  Placement percentage 96% Highest package INR 18.75 LPA Average package INR 11.90 LPA The top recruiters are Amdocs, Teradata, Radisys India, Honeywell Technology, Idrive Software, Dell EMC, Cisco Systems, Riverbed Technology, etc. Admission process:-  The candidates are selected based on the 60% marks or 6.5 CGPA obtained in BTech/BE/BCA course.  The final selection of the candidates is a good mark in the NIMCET test.  The cutoff required is 175. Ans. IIT-M and IISC both are well-reputed institutes and good options to pursue M.Tech in ECE. However, IISc has a more enhanced approach towards high-end research in MTech. Both the institute offers decent placements for the M.Tech in ECE. IISc has an Office of Career Counselling and Placement(OCCap), which takes care of the placement of the institute. The major recruiters at IISC include Microsoft, Flipkart, Adobe, Qualcomm and government agencies like HP and Bharat Petroleum. The average placement package offered in the 2019 placement drive was 15 lakhs. The internship hiring of the 2020-21 batch had the highest stipend of 1.15 lakh per months while the average was 57,000/- per month.  The average placement rate for MTech at IITM was 66% in the 2019 placement drive. The top recruiters included Google, HCL, Intel, Cisco, IBM, Dell among many other government and international organizations. The average CTC offered was around 12.4 lakhs while the highest was 17.5 lakhs. Comparing the trends in the last few years, it would not be wrong to infer that IISc has better placements when compared to IIT-M when it comes to MTech in ECE.Read more

Ans. Both, IIT Bhubaneswar and IIIT Bangalore offer decent M.Tech in electronics and communication programs and provide good placement so it’s difficult to choose one institute over the other. Given below are a few factors which the students are required to consider before selecting between the two colleges:- Placement:In terms of placement, the average CTC of IIT Bhubaneswar stands out to be 11.5 lakhs/annum. Companies like Amazon, Microsoft, Goldman Sachs, Oracle, IBM, etc visit the IIT Bhubaneswar campus for placement drive. Few well-known PSU named ISRO, IOCL, and ONGC were also part of the placement in 2019. Apart from the offered jobs, the final year students are offered internships with a good amount of pay. Highest CTC touched approx 39 lakhs/annum. In 2019 from the electronics and communication field almost 86% of students got a decent placement from the campus. IIT Bangalore showed remarkable progress by having 100% placement in 2019.
