M.Tech. in Fluids Engineering is a postgraduate engineering course concerned with the mechanics of fluids such as liquids, gases, and plasmas and the forces acting upon them. Fluid mechanics is applicable in many engineering branches such as mechanical engineering, civil engineering, chemical engineering, geophysics, astrophysics, and biology.

There are two branches of the discipline:

  • Fluid Statics – the study of fluids at rest
  • Fluid Dynamics – the study of fluids in motion

The duration of this technical course is 2 years and the minimum eligibility to pursue the course is a Bachelor of Technology (B. Tech) degree in any engineering discipline from a recognized institute with minimum 50% marks in aggregate or equivalent CGPA.

Selection in engineering colleges for this field is done based on either the candidate’s GATE score or performance in any of the university- specific entrance exams followed by rounds of interview in some cases. A few institutes also provide direct admission based on the candidate’s score obtained at the level of graduation. The last step of the admission process involves counselling considering the marks obtained in the entrance test or another qualifying exam.

The average tuition fee for this course in India ranges between INR 1 and 5 Lacs. A fresh postgraduate of Fluids Engineering can earn an annual salary ranging between INR 4 to 6 Lacs, increasing gradually with experience and skillset.

M.Tech in Fluids Engineering: What is it About?

M.Tech in Fluids Engineering program is designed to familiarize students, on an advanced level, with different aspects of Fluid Statics and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), which constitute the core concepts of creating a computational, virtual environment of any physical system that involves fluids and heat transfer.

The program aims to offer theoretical training in the thermal and fluid sciences combined with simulation and experimental skills applied to aerospace, power plant, and gas turbines research. M.Tech in Fluids Engineering program equips students with the skills to create designs related to linear and non-linear steady state/ transient heat transfer, steady and unsteady fluid flow, flow through porous media, open channel flow, multi-phase flows, fluid structure interactions viz estimation of thermal and pressure loads and coupled field analysis.

M.Tech in Fluids Engineering course also trains students in experimental techniques like flow visualization, combustion diagnostics, particle characterization and other recent imaging techniques adopted in the field of thermal research.

Usually, M.Tech in Fluids Engineering courses require students to work on long-term research- oriented projects or be involved in other activities such as field work, plant visit and others.

Ques. How is the M.Tech in welding technology at NIT Trichy in terms of placements?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 15 Sept 21

Ans. Welding technology has the distinct advantage of having some organizations who come to NIT Trichy solely to hire welding masters. In core welding firms, more than 50% placement is guaranteed. During the placement process, many software and mechanical firms visit the campus.  According to the recent placement highlights, the placement average for Welding Technology was around 60%. The placement average is less this year due to the ongoing pandemic.  The average CTC offered in the placement is 7-9 LPA.  The major recruiting companies that visit the campus are Tata Steel, Caterpillar, Lincoln, etc. NDT companies also recruit from Welding. If you have the required skills you can also sit for software and data science roles.  Almost 60% of the branch get placed in Mechanical core while the remaining 40% get placed in sectors like software, marketing, etc. If you have good CGPA and decent communication skills then getting into core sectors from Welding Engineering at NIT Trichy will not be that difficult.Read more

Ques. What are the benefits of M.tech (ME) from IIT Madras?

● Top Answer By Shivani Tiwari on 30 Jul 21

Ans. IIT Madras is one of the best institutes for engineering in India, providing excellent infrastructure, facilities, and top-notch placement in almost all streams. The points below state some of the most important benefits that you will receive in M.Tech at IIT Madras. In Mechanical Engineering, there are not many jobs available for engineering graduates in India. So, rather than being unemployed and failing in competitive exams repetitively, it is always better to go for higher studies, especially in institutes IITs. M.Tech students in IITs are given a stipend of 12,400 per month. This is given without any involvement in some sort of work or research too. So, earning while studying out of no extra effort is a great deal, which is never possible being in company. The IITian tag has its own value, which students run after even during their undergraduate days. Getting into the same institute which a student has tried 4 years before and failed is an achievement. Being in an IIT, society gives a lot of respect and treats its fellows as true engineers of society. Most M.Tech students get the chance of working in core companies, which are very rare for B.Tech graduates. These are the real white-collar jobs, which students dream of. The campus life of IIT Madras has a lot to offer to its students, making memories for the two years of M.Tech. Therefore, there are thousands of benefits in studying M.Tech in any stream at IIT Madras, some of them being listed above.Read more

Ques. Should I choose a mechanical degree from the BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus or a CS degree from the BITS Pilani Goa Campus?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 19 Jul 21

Ans. Prior to mentioning anything, it depends upon what your preference is. However, if you relatively require a faster or simply an immediate placement following the course, then opting for BITS Pilani, Goa (CSE) can be a superior choice. The CS branch is comparably one of the most demanded courses and is on a severe hike in India. It moreover has granted students the opportunity to obtain the highest entry-level package over and across India. Given the factors, the Goa campus of BITS Pilani can provide you with all the necessities. In fact, one of my friends is a recent graduate from the institute and frankly shares no amount of regret following his admission. The Goa campus of BITS Pilani has recorded high selections for GSoC. Categories Mechanical at BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus CS at BITS Pilani Goa Campus Course Fee 19.19 lakh 19.19 lakh Highest CTC 21 LPA 29 LPA Average CTC 11 LPA 12-15 LPA Recruiting Companies Bosch, Mercedes, nVidia, Goldman Sachs, etc. Infosys, Cognizant, Accenture, IBM, etc. He preferred pursuing CSE at BITS Pilani, Goa over EEE at BITS Pilani, main campus. Now comparing your choices, you should undeniably plan to enlist at the Goa campus.Read more
