Also, the M.Tech courses at NIT Trichy's are much better compared to other NITs.  Coming to the Metallurgy department, for M.Tech there are three specialties available.  Welding Engineering, Industrial Metallurgy, Material Science & Engineering. Ans. There is no scope for M.Tech in material science and engineering. It is suggested not to opt for this particular course at any of the engineering colleges in India. No colleges have produced any skilled Material Science engineers. The curriculum is 40 years old and there are no private electrical companies in India. Most importantly, there is absolutely no demand for material science engineers in India and it should not be taught in India. The current M.Tech programs running in the country are a scam. You will not be able to find any demand in the industry. The syllabus of M.Tech is forced upon engineers to run the GATE coaching industry. 99.99% of M.Tech graduates do not get the desired salary and respect of a researcher. The average income is only 2-3 LPA which is very low. Most of them become clerks in the service-based industries.Read more

Ans. Yes, pursuing M.Tech in Material Science and Engineering from IIT Bhubaneswar is worthwhile. The placement record for 2019 at IIT Bhubaneswar shows a 68% placement rate for M.Tech courses. Around 90 companies visited the campus for placement drive in 2019 and the top recruiters were Amazon, Jindal Stainless Ltd, TATA STEEL, Adobe, etc. The School of Minerals, Metallurgical, and Materials Engineering is quite good at IIT Bhubaneswar, the faculties are well-experienced and involved in sponsored projects by the Department of Science and Technology, UGC-DAE, Govt. of Odisha, and many more. M.Tech in metallurgical and materials technology at the Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar will introduce you with immense exposure opportunities, good Infrastructure, and well-qualified faculties. However, when it comes to placements for M.Tech students particularly in metallurgical and materials technology, the placements are not satisfactory enough when compared to other IITs. The average placement percentage is around 60% - 65%. Also, you’ll find that the salary packages offered to the students are not as per expectations. The Median salary offered to metallurgical and materials technology students at IIT Bhubaneswar are around 6 lakhs. Furthermore, if we look at the past placement records, there has been no improvement in the placement package offered to students for this program over the years. Not many companies recruit students from the metallurgical and materials technology field. Ans. Based on the GATE score, IIT Bhubaneshwar calls a limited number of students for written tests and interviews. The admission is usually offered on the basis of performance in written test and interview. Each has a different weightage i.e Written Test contains 70% weightage and Interview has 30% of weightage. The written test will contain the questions from General Aptitude and Metallurgy. Metallurgy will be on par with the GATE level. General Aptitude will comprise of Reasoning, Quantitative Aptitude, and English. You need to qualify the written test in order to appear for the interview. You need to be prepared with your project for an interview. You must also know the basics of concepts like XRD, Iron- Carbon diagram, and Metallurgy basics. Campus Life :

The campus life of our university is very good. Gender ratio almost equal in our university. The infrastructure of our department and facility of the hostel in our university is comparatively better than other universities in the northeast. Here free MHRD Wi-Fi available. And all the classroom in our department is digitally built with the projector. As per the requirement, our course lab equipment is available here. PG Hostel in our department is newly build-up and all facility are there. Food quality are very good. Here the gym centre is available and also football, cricket, basketball ground available. Overall all are very good.

Course Curriculum Overview :

Our course curriculum and exam structure of M.Tech in Material science and engineering as same as done as per UGC rule and regulation. In our course curriculum, 1st semester has a total of 3 core branch subject and 2 elective subjects which offered by our department and another other department and also have 2 labs. In 2nd semester have 2 core subject, 2 elective subject and one computer foundation course and have 2 labs. From 3rd and 4th semester, we have only a project and presentation. Overall good curriculum structure available here.

Placement Experience :

Almost 80% of students were placed in our course. Last year some student went for higher studies like PhD and some of the students placed at Ants Ceramics Pvt Limited, Mumbai as an Executive Engineer. Average salary is nearly 30000 per month. Interesting thing is that our subject is only M.Tech subject where offered M.Tech course at whole North East. Last year some of the students completed an internship at CSIR Jamshedpur. Overall good placement offered after completion of course.
