M.Tech. Structural Engineering: What is it about?

The major objective of the course is to impart advanced learning to eligible candidates in fundamental principles of Structural Analysis. Students are trained to implement such principles through different methods, in analyses of various types of structures, and to evaluate force and displacement parameters of such structures. Eligibility for M.Tech. in Structural Engineering

Candidates wishing to apply for the course need to meet the following criteria of minimum eligibility:

  • B.E. or B.Tech. in Civil Engineering or attained another equivalent degree such as Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Energy and Environment Engineering from a recognized institute, with a minimum aggregate score of 55%.
  • Students having completed M.Sc. in Environmental Science with at least 50% (45% for SC/ST/OBC candidates) marks in aggregate are also eligible to apply for the course.
  • Students in the last semester of graduation are also eligible to apply, provided they fulfill the other minimum eligibility criteria.

M.Tech. in Structural Engineering: Admission Process

Most institutes admit students based on their performance in a relevant entrance test, followed by a round of Personal Interview. Some institutes conduct their own entrance tests for offering admission. Admission process generally varies across colleges. However, GATE/NET scores are accepted at almost all institutes offering the course.

Admissions to the course is also conducted through a round of central counseling on the basis of the candidate’s obtained merit in PGCET.

Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) – GATE is an all-India examination that is conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore and seven Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) to test the candidate’s comprehensive understanding of various subjects in engineering and science. The entrance exam is primarily held for admission to post graduate courses in the field of engineering, technology, architecture, and science.

GATE score is accepted for admission to various PG programs. The online test is a multiple-choice and numerical-type exam which is divided in three sections, namely General Aptitude, Engineering Mathematics, and the relevant specialization-specific section.

UPES M.Tech. in Engineering Entrance Test (UPES MEET)- University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) conducts UPES MEET every year for admission to the course. The engineering entrance test is conducted in three phases for non-GATE candidates. It is an online test and the UPES MEET scores are accepted for admission to the course offered by the UPES. Candidates with eligible GATE scores are offered direct admission to the course, however, remaining candidates are needed to qualify the UPES MEET.

The test consists of questions from 4 sections, namely General Aptitude, English, Engineering Mathematics, and General Engineering.

Ans. IIT Delhi and IIT Madras offer a Post-Graduation in Construction Technology and Management. To secure a seat at either of the institutes, you must obtain a good rank in the GATE examination. IIT Delhi gives more weightage to the technical aspects of the course, while NICMAR focuses more on the managerial aspects of Construction. The curriculum of the course is unmatched, yet the placements, at times, can be quite unanticipated.  Both the courses are quite equivalent to each other on various stages whatsoever. But, when the decision boils down to which among the both is better, then IIT Delhi might win the race. Now, the Transportation Engineering department from IITs is indeed a great course. The average package some of my seniors from this course secured was about INR 5 LPA. Ans. One of my friends graduated from NIT Trichy. According to him, the placements for the M.Tech in structural engineering is pretty good in NIT Trichy. There is a separate Training and Placement department to look after the placement activities. Generally, training starts in the second semester. Every year, approximately 80% of the students get job opportunities in reputed companies.  They are offered an average salary package of INR 6 lakh per annum. Ans. Yes, you can definitely think of pursuing an M.Tech degree from NIT Trichy. But, always check the placement percentage if you are thinking of getting a job after your degree. The M.Tech is definitely better as compared to other branches like civil engineering at NIT Trichy. According to recent data, about 87.1% of students from M. Tech were placed in the placement drive of 2020. Ques. Is environmental geotechnology (civil) branch for M.Tech at NIT Calicut good enough?

Ans. The M.Tech program of Environmental Geotechnology at NIT Calicut is an interdisciplinary branch. In the first semester, you will be taught about Geotechnological Engineering and in the second semester, you will learn about subjects that are in Environmental Engineering such as Groundwater Hydrology. All in all, this course is more towards the Geotechnical side than the Environmental side. You also have to undertake projects. Usually, most people opt for Geotechnical projects. Talking about the prospects of the future, L&T has been the only recruiters for some years now they recruited very few students pursuing postgraduate.  If you want to teach this course in the future, then pursuing it will be a good idea. Ans. Having to know some people studying in both these colleges, I can say that they are equally good. You can opt for any one of them, their respective programs are also good. They are recognized as Centres of Excellence by MHRD, Govt of India. The choice mainly depends on the individual and their preferences. You should go for the one you are enthusiastic about. NITIE offers 3 courses, where the selection is through GATE scores. These include Post Graduate Diploma in Industrial Engineering, Project Management, and Manufacturing Management. These courses are a mixture of technical and business management. IITs offer M.Tech through GATE exam scores.  It involves core specialization and nothing about industrial management. So, the selection of the college and the course entirely depends on you. Go through them and then decide which will be a better option for your career.Read more

Faculty of the college is very highly qualified with well experience of many years. In every department, there exists a further department according to specialisation in the subject. So in specialisation, there are tentatively 7-8 lecturers and 2-3 visiting lecturers and in whole department of branch, 2-3 such further departments are available. Overall, in every department, 25-30 lecturers are there. Some are very aged and some are at a medium level of age.

The college holds two events named 1. Zenith and 2. Prajwalan These two events further contain various technical, non technical and cultural events celebrated every year. These events are very big and students from across all over vidarbha region and government, govt. aided colleges of Maharashtra's students participate in those two events on a wide range.

Labs sports ground and infrastructure is till on progress new building is under construction which is specialy for master and PhD Persuing students. With a huge library on it. The best benifit of studying here is that the university (csvtu) is just beside your acedmic building so in case of any issue you can visit eaisly

Placement Experience :

I don't think company came for placement of master in structure students.placement camp occur in our campus but it's open for bachlor students also.structure in civil is an indipendent field. You can start your own company. Cg is under development alot of good project and opportunity will come to you.

College Events :

Technical, cultural, management festival, seminar, workshop, the ciruculam include varies seminar and workshop on technical as well as non technical such as stadd pro 3 printer etc. It's open for all Csvtu affiliated college and people from Al over cg come to attend it (faculty along with students)
