M.Phil. in Hindi or Master of Philosophy in Hindi is a postgraduate research course in Hindi. The course can be called a mirror equivalent of Ph.D. but is different from it in certain aspects. Many colleges offer this course in an integrated form with Ph.D. also. The course duration is generally 2 years but can be more if distance education is pursued. When the M.Phil.-Ph.D. integrated course is pursued, the M.Phil. duration is supposed to be 1 year.

The basic eligibility criterion for pursuing M.Phil. in Hindi is that the students must have obtained their masters in Hindi from a recognized college and should have obtained the minimum marks required as mentioned by the concerned university.

The admissions to this course are mainly through entrance tests conducted by the colleges. Banasthali Vidyapith aspirants will have to undergo an aptitude test conducted by the university itself. M.Phil. in Hindi: Eligibility

The minimum eligibility for admission to M.Phil in Hindi is Masters in Hindi with at least 55%. The masters should have been done from a recognized college. While almost all of the colleges require 55% in post graduation for the application process, Jawaharlal Nehru University offers admission to students who have acquired 50% marks in Post Graduation. Yet this criteria is applicable only for permission to attempt the entrance test.

Students who qualify the eligibility criterion are supposed to go through the entrance tests which are conducted by most of the universities in various forms.

M.Phil. in Hindi: Admission Process

The admission procedure in colleges is mostly based on merit-cum-aptitude tests. Most of the colleges arrange entrance test and interview for admission in M.Phil. in Hindi. The students are given admission on the basis of written test and interview along with their previous educational qualifications.

Direct Admission

As it is an advanced professional degree, direct admission is not available in regular colleges. Even if a student has acquired distinction in Masters in Hindi, they still are required to appear for the entrance test. But there are open universities that provide direct admission through distance-learning.

Entrance Admission

Almost all colleges arrange an entrance test for selecting candidates for M.Phil. in Hindi program. The entrance test comprises a written test and an interview which is based on the course of interest opted. The criterion for the entrance test is 55% marks in Masters in Hindi. The merit list is prepared on the educational qualifications and result of the written exam and interview.

The entrance test paper may contain both objective and subjective type questions. The objective type questions can be from a range of topics including History of Hindi Literature, Indian and Western Poetics, Hindi Criticism etc. Subjective type questions are designed to test a candidate’s critical and analytical thinking. These questions span the following topics:

After the results of the entrance exam are declared, a selected few candidates are called for an interview. The interview panel may be of 2-4 persons, who question a candidate on their intent to study Hindi Literature and their hands-on knowledge of the subject. The final selection of candidates for admission is made on the basis of their performance in the entrance test, the interview, and their marks in the qualifying examination.
