PGD in Services Management: Syllabus and Course Description

The service sector encompasses a massive part of India’s economy, and has higher growth rate than the agriculture and manufacturing sectors. Services firms are people- oriented owing to the involvement of direct interaction with customers. Customers generally participate in the service process, often through direct and uncensored interaction with employees and facilities. The resulting variations in demands present a challenge to Operations Managers to effectively use the perishable service capacity. This happens because production and consumptions occurs simultaneously and inventory services often cannot keep pace. The course aims to train enrolled students with the concepts and tools to effectively manage a service operation.

Ques. Is it worth doing a PGP HRM at IIM Indore?

● Top Answer By Aaditya Hari Nair on 24 Aug 21

Ans. IIM Indore started a Post Graduate Program (PGP) in Human Resource Management (HRM) in the year 2018. It has been only a few years since the program started so it is a bit too early to say if it is worth it or not for everybody. However the exposure the students get and the faculty is top-notch.  The course design is really very good and can be compared to even top HRM institutes such as TISS, XLRI Jamshedpur, and MDI Gurgaon.  The HRM students study the first year with the regular MBA students and thus get a fair idea about general management as well. The institute conducts industry visits, internships, seminars, and workshops regularly so that the students get an idea of the real business working conditions.  The college also has an Industrial Interface Program (IIP) which is separate from the regular summer internship program. It gives you exposure to the real world of business. So I would say that yes it is worth doing PGP HRM from IIM Indore.Read more
