HPCET 2023 Exam Pattern; Mode, Total Questions, Marking Scheme

HPCET 2023 Exam Pattern will give an insight into the syllabus, duration, language medium and marks distribution. The pattern will be decided by Himachal Pradesh Technical University. The syllabus for HPCET 2023 for an undergraduate level will comprise of the 10+2 level of Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.

  • For post-graduate level, the syllabus will cover the subjects according to the stream candidates have applied for.
  • The exam is conducted in offline mode.
  • The questions will be objective only in OMR sheet format that has to fill by the candidate at the time of the exam.
  • The exam will be conducted in the month of May.
  • Duration for the exam- 3 hours
  • Total number of questions- for Bachelors’ courses-150 (50 from each section), for Master’s courses- 100, For MBA and MCA- 100

HPCET 2023 Exam Pattern in Detail

The exam will be conducted in offline mode where candidates will be provided with OMR sheets. There will be multiple answer questions in the exam. There will be three sections in the paper that will be based upon the stream and level candidate has applied for. The duration of the exam is 3 hours.

The exam pattern is different for each stream. The candidate will be awarded 2 marks for each correct answer and ½ marks will be deducted for each wrong response selected by the candidate.

B.Tech/ B.Pharmacy

The test for the bachelors contains 150 objective questions that are to be solved in the duration of three hours. The questions are multiple answer type with four options for each question.

Marking Scheme for HPCET 2023

In the marking scheme for HPCET 2023, there is negative marking for each wrong answer selected by the candidate. Multiple responses selected by the candidate will be counted as an incorrect response and the marks will be deducted accordingly. Though the unattended questions will not be marked negatively or marked at all.

Each right answer will fetch two marks for the candidate. Whereas, with each wrong response ½ marks out of the total marks scored by candidate will be deducted.

  • Marking scheme: 2 marks for each correct answer
  • Negative marking: Half (1/2 or 0.5) of the marks will be deducted for each incorrect answer

HPCET 2023 Syllabus

HPCET 2023 syllabus contains two Sections A and B. Section – A pertains to the Theory Part having 80% weightage, while Section – B contains Practical Component (Experimental Skills) having 20% weightage.

Important Instructions

There are few guidelines that must be followed by the candidate to avoid exemption/delay/debarring from the exam:

  • HPCET 2023 will be conducted in the offline mode only. An OMR sheet will be given to candidates for marking the answers.
  • The total time duration of the exam will be three hours and two hours for the MBA/MCA exams. Candidates must try to reach the examination hall on time.
  • Candidates must remember to carry the original as well as the photocopy of their admit card and ID proof to enter the exam hall.
  • For marking the responses, only blue or black ballpoint pen must be used. The circles must be completely filled as per the instructions provided in the OMR sheet.
  • The questions will be given in English language only. Any alternate language mode or question paper will not be provided for the exam.
  • Un-attempted questions will not be marked.
  • Multiple responses to the same question will be regarded as incorrect and hence, will be subject to half a mark deduction.
