In IELTS speaking cue cards, the candidate needs to select a random cue card on which they have to speak for 2 minutes. The cue card is attached with a task card that contains the points to speak on.

The main focus of this task is assessing if the candidate is proficient enough to structure their response and continue for 2 long minutes. The preparation time for task 2 is 1 minute during which they can make notes to help them while speaking. After the 2 minutes, the examiner further asks the candidate a few more questions.
